5.0 out of 5 stars It's a bird, it's a plane... no it's SUPERMAN!!, 1 Nov. 2007
Under the excellent direction of Bryan Singer, the greatest superhero of all time returns like never before!

'Superman Returns' comes to us as a follow-up of 'Superman II' in which the Man of Steel returns to Earth after a five year absence, during which he had travelled to his home planet of Krypton after astronomers believed they had found the remains of the destructed planet. Upon returning to Earth, Superman discovers that some major changes have happened during his absence - his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor has been released from prison and is up to his old tricks again. He has tricked an elderly ill widow into a sham marriage to get his hands on her money and gets everything she owns when she dies. He travels to the Fortress of Solitude and steals the Kryptonite crystals and plans to use them to create a new landmass - and at the same time, destroy the world and kill billions of people. Also when returning to Earth, Superman must face a devastating heartbreaking reality when he discovers that the woman he loves Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane is now engaged to Richard White, the nephew of Daily Planet boss Perry White, has won a Pulitzer Prize for an article entitled 'Why The World Doesn't Need Superman', has a five year old son named Jason and has moved on with her life - or has she?

Brandon Routh soars onto our screens as the Man of Steel - and what a wonder he is. As soon as he is seen wearing the suit, it shows instantly one thing with no mistakes - he IS Superman! He is the perfect man to wear the red cape and in this amazing movie he doesn't fly, he soars! He does an excellent job marking out the main differences between Superman and Clark Kent and he definitely makes both the roles his own. You can always tell when he's Clark and you can always tell when he's Superman for he shows the differences very clearly. I personally name Brandon the most handsome Superman the world has ever seen and he sure has an excellent physique for the Man of Steel. There is no one else better to soar through the air in the blue suit and red cape than Brandon Routh!

Next to Brandon's wonderful Superman/Clark Kent is Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, the love of Superman's life. In this movie, we meet a more independant Lois as, following Superman's sudden departure, she is now engaged and has a son Jason - who is in fact Superman's son (following a physical and passionate turn in Superman and Lois's relationship in 'Superman II'). Kate Bosworth portrays Lois Lane extremely well. She certainly knows how to show Lois as a bitter woman feeling betrayed by Superman leaving without saying goodbye. Loads of people say she was too young for the role but what difference does that make? She dawns onto our screens as the most beautiful Lois Lane the world has ever seen. Despite her young age of 23, she acted the role with great maturity and the spirit of the character - not to mention her incredible chemistry with Brandon Routh! As Brandon makes it very clear that Superman is still in love with Lois, Kate makes it very clear that despite being hurt and angry by his departure, Lois is still in love with Superman. That's definitely part of the reason why the rooftop scene in which Superman takes Lois flying is my favourite scene. Not to mention the fact that Lois saves Superman after Lex Luthor stabs him with Kryptonite before he returns to save the world. Kate Bosworth is absolutely perfect for the role of Lois Lane!

And finally, we have none other than Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. I know that Kevin Spacey is a very talented actor, but he certainly shows greatness when playing villains. As Lex Luthor, he brings both humour and evil to the enemy of the Man of Steel. But when he combines the two styles the way he does in this role, he presents one brilliant menacing villain whose up to his old tricks again after being released from prison and is out for revenge against Superman. He certainly gives Gene Hackman a run for his money. So who better to play the role of Lex Luthor than good old Kevin Spacey? No one that's who!

Also, the graphics and the uses of digital technology are fantastic in this movie. Scenes like the Boeing 777 aeroplane scene where Superman saves everyone on-board from disaster, the scene that shows exactly how bullet-proof Superman is, the growing of the Kryptonite landmass and Superman pulling the landmass out of the ocean and sending it to space all have such amazing graphics and excellent digital technology. The graphics and digital technology in this 'Superman' movie are obviously much better than the earlier ones. Also, the music is very beautiful. We have a beautiful new score composed by John Ottman, but the best part about the music is that the wonderful 'Superman' theme composed by the great John Williams is still here! That's definitely one of my favourite pieces in movie music. I also have to say that in this movie, we have come across the best edition of the Superman suit. The suit is very cleaned up, polished and very fit for an all-powerful superhero.

'Superman Returns' is my favourite movie and is the best 'Superman' movie ever or should I say so far because Bryan Singer is currently working on a sequel that he is planning to release in 2009 and it is called 'Superman: The Man Of Steel'. There are supposed to be more villains in this sequel from what I've heard and yes Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey will be reprising their roles as Superman/Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. YES! So you morons who didn't like this brilliant movie, you might like the sequel! And to you good people who did like this brilliant movie, don't listen those idiots because they don't know what they're talking about. Superman returns and he says he's always around - and I'm glad he is! Long live Superman!

5.0 out of 5 stars I've got a new favourite Barbie movie!, 7 Oct. 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This movie may not yet be out on DVD here in the UK, but I've seen it and it is BRILLIANT!! I've seen all the Barbie movies and this one is offically my favourite.

'Barbie as the Island Princess' tells the story of Rosella, a girl shipwrecked on a beautiful tropical paradise island who can talk to animals. Rosella lives with her three animal friends Tika a loyal baby elephant, Azul a prim peacock and Sagi a wise red panda until one day, Prince Antonio discovers their island. Antonio and Rosella fall in love and Rosella decides to return with Antonio to his kingdom to try and find her family. But when arriving, Antonio discovers that his parents have arranged for him to marry Princess Luciana, whose mother Queen Ariana is plotting to overthrow the kingdom. Can Rosella stop Ariana's evil plot before it's too late?

I absolutely love the songs in this beautiful Barbie musical, I've been singing them to myself ever since I saw this movie. The animals are so adorable - Azul certainly is very funny as he thinks he's a Prince himself, Tika is so cute and looks up to Rosella as a sister, Sagi is very wise and is always there for Rosella when she needs help and Tallulah is an adorable monkey who helps Rosella prepare for the Ball. I certainly love the characters as well - Rosella is a beautiful young girl with an amazing gift, Antonio is a handsome young man who'll stop at nothing to thwart his father's plans for him to marry Luciana (also in terms of appearance, he's the best image of Ken we've ever had), Luciana is a beautiful young girl with a good heart who knows what to really marry for and Queen Ariana is one mean lady you don't want to get on the wrong side of! And of course, Antonio's three little sisters Rita, Gena and Sophia are very cute.

I absolutely love the plot of this movie - there's a lot of lovely scenes as well. The Royal Ball scene is really sweet. When I first saw this scene, I couldn't get over how beautiful Rosella looks in her beautiful ball gown. And I was very touched when watching her and Antonio dancing together - so beautiful! So if you're a Barbie movie fan, you'll like this movie - 'Barbie as the Island Princess' is now my offical favourite Barbie movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool beginning to the adventures of the Purple Dragon!, 28 Jun. 2007
For the beginning of all of Spyro's adventures and journeys, what a way to start!! And with really good graphics and an all-star voice cast - COOL!

Watch out though, Cynder sure is one big bad dragon...until the end when she turns good.

It sure is a dramatic game and story, especially when this is the actual beginning of Spyro's adventures. It's not exactly my favourite, but it's a good game - the only problem is Sparx is sooo annoying! He's not like that the other games though, thank goodness! It really is a good beginning to the adventures of the Purple Dragon.

And a note to all the other reviewers and Spyro fans - the only reason why Hunter, Moneybags, Blink, Sheila, Sgt Byrd and the Professer aren't in this game is because Spyro hasn't met them yet. If you put all the games in order in terms of the story, this is actually the first part. So that's why they're not in it because Spyro hasn't met them yet - they would come in later.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest conclusion that the Jane Austen Season ever could've hoped for!!!!, 5 April 2007
'Mansfield Park' and 'Northanger Abbey' were indeed very much to my liking, but out of all three of them 'Persuasion' is my favourite. I thought I only liked 'Pride and Prejudice' but now I have a new favourite novel by the great Jane Austen thanks to this wonderful adaptation. This adaptation consists of a fine cast and stars the lovely Sally Hawkins as the heroine Anne Elliot and the dashing Rupert Penry-Jones as Captain Frederick Wentworth.

Sally Hawkins is absolutely perfect and outstanding as Anne Elliot, the overlooked middle daughter of the vain and spendthift Sir Walter Elliot (portrayed wonderfully by Anthony Stewart Head.) She is excellent in really expressing the depression of Anne's character after being heavily persuaded to give up the man she loves. And how she brightens up at the end when she gets her man back - so touching! She wonderfully portrays Anne as a downtrodden young woman who has been living in extreme guilt and grief after Lady Russell has persuaded her to break off her engagement to Captain Wentworth. The role of Anne Elliot is a perfect role for her, for her performance swept me away! It looks as though she is the real Anne Elliot!! Rupert Penry-Jones as the love-sick Captain Frederick Wentworth stole my heart! As Captain Wentworth, he certainly shows us why every young woman would take a liking to him. His portrayal as a man who has had his heart broken by the woman he loves is magnificent! Everytime he sees Anne and looks at her, it so obvious that he is suffering from a broken heart but also obvious that he still loves her and will never move on from her. He certainly shows his emotions brillantly in the scene when he admits he is not in love with Louisa Musgrove and in the scene when he admits to Captain Harville that he is still in love with Anne and when he learns that Louisa is engaged to Captain James Benwick. And how he changes to a man filled with such joy when he is reunited with Anne - such a tender moment! The role of Captain Frederick Wentworth is a perfect role for him, he looks as though he is the real Captain Wentworth!!

How much drama and passion Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones bring to this beautiful adaptation of the Jane Austen classic! And if you ask me, they are alot better than Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds, especially age wise because Root and Hinds looked way too old for the roles. The last scenes when Anne and Frederick are reunited are so tender! Especially because of their kiss and their lovely small dance in the front garden of Kellynch Hall. They really made this story my favourite Jane Austen novel and Anne Elliot and Captain Frederick Wentworth one of my favourite fictional couples!

So a message to all Jane Austen fans - "You must see this film! You will love it! For I sure do!"

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Production of 'Swan Lake' EVER!!!!, 26 Jun. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Out of all the 'Swan Lake' productions I have seen, never have I seen one as amazing as this one! With absolutely beautiful costumes, designs and choreography, the Kirov Ballet present us with the best production of theis most famous and popular of classical ballets. With the beautiful choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with the familiar happy ending in this version by Konstantin Sergeyev in this fabulous production by Oleg Vinogradov, this is a production that all ballet fans should definitely watch! But of course, this production would not have been complete without the amazing dancers of the Kirov Ballet, which includes prima ballerina Yulia Makhalina and international star Igor Zelensky.

Yulia Makhalina is the Swan Queen!! In this performance, we see her performing her best role. Yulia's remarkable Odette stole my heart! Her beautiful soft and smooth technique, her upper body strength, her long legs and her swan-like arms are all suited to the role and her acting is absolutely superb with her tragic innocence and her passionate tenderness. As Odile, she certainly swept me off my feet! Her amazing upper body strength, her jerky technique and her amazing evil face expressions definitely helped me to realise how she can seduce Siegfried - she nearly seduced me! And I have never seen someone perform Odile's 32 fouettes so well. Yulia's fouettes are far more impressive than Darcey Bussell's talent of dancing! She is the best Odette/Odile I have ever seen in my entire life. She makes it look as though she is a real swan in disguise!!

I fell in love with Igor Zelensky's Prince Siegfried. Igor is at the height of all his jumps, his spinning is superb, his acting is so charming and he partners Yulia extremely well. The role of Siegfried is a very demanding role, but Igor makes it look easy with his amazing jumps and his incredible upper body strength. His Siegfried is passionate, desirible, believing and real. His amazing acting makes it look as he is the real Prince Siegfried, he definitely is the greatest Siegfried I have ever seen.

Igor and Yulia's partnership is absolutely outstanding! They certainly filled the White Swan Pas de Deux in Act 1, scene 2 with much passion and love. In fact, throughout the whole Pas de Deux, Igor had a look on his face that suggested that all he wanted to do was to hold Yulia in his arms and never let her go - amazing! The White Swan Pas de Deux has always been one of my favourites and I have never seen it being performed in a more beautiful way. This definitely shows us why Yulia Makhalina and Igor Zelensky's partnership is one of the greatest partnerships ever formed.

In other parts, Yuri Fateyev as the Jester certainly does bring a lot of fun, colour and excitement to Act 1, Scene 1 and Act 2. But it is Eldar Aliyev's Von Rothbart that very nearly steals the show. Eldar's rock hard technique is certainly suited to the role of the evil sorcerer. His extremely evil looks and glares sends a cold shiver down my spine! He looks as though he is staring at me with large amber eyes. In Act 2, he certainly shows that he is extremely determined to stop Odette from escaping his spell, especially when she appears at the window during the Black Swan Pas de Deux. He is definitely one evil sorcerer you do NOT want to mess with!!

This is the best production of 'Swan Lake' I have ever seen in my life. So a word to all ballet fans - 'Buy this DVD because it is the best production of 'Swan Lake' ever! It is especially better than that hideous production by the Royal Ballet!' All praise to the Kirov Ballet.
