Rival Schools
Rival Schools

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to breaking controllers, 22 Jan. 2010

This review is from: Rival Schools (Video Game)
If your looking for what made the PS1 so successful and beat em ups so fun, it's right here.
It's an early 3D game so everything looks a little blocky and the response isn't spectacular, it's also very very very difficult, but once you start playing this game you'll have more fun than ever.
It's back to the days of screaming at the screen, sitting on the edge of your seat and almost entering the screen. So intense, so fun, so rewarding, so stressful.
Highly recommended, always a good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars BREAK THE PAD BUTTON BASHING, 11 Oct. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Button bashing brilliance. No puzzles, no maps, no riddles, no mazes, no dungeons, no fighting, no health bar.

Pick your event, button bash to the end! Maybe jump a hurdle or two along the way?

This game is brilliant and best served as multiplayer! Beware: Your fingers burn and your controlled buttons wear down.

4.0 out of 5 stars More mayhem than strategy, 11 Oct. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One of the early domination type games so lacking the diversity in commands that Age of Empires of the likes have, but well worth the buy.

Build huts and houses to train your warriors etc. and also send them to battle other tribes and take over each level. The Shaman does spells like lightning and tornado to do mass damage. Kill the opposing teams Shaman and learn new spells and get new technology e.g. warrior, fire warrior, boats etc.

Levels are completed by achieving objectives.

Good game overall but I agree it literally cannot be completed without cheats.

Introduction to Game Programming with C++ (Wordware Game Developer's Library)
Introduction to Game Programming with C++ (Wordware Game Developer's Library)

Edition: Paperback
Price: £35.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for complete beginners. Knowledge of language required, 31 Aug. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If your comfortable with your programming in C++ or any other language this book is a perfect addition and starting point or reference for learning games programming both concepts and how to go about it.

There are no code tutorial examples, so if you want a book that steps you through games programming giving you code to accompany it look elsewhere.

This book is great. It contains great mathematics required for games, a list of software available (IDE's for game programming) and talks about the differences for developing 2D and 3D games.

If you already know how to program this book is all you need to guide you to games programming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, fun to use, 5 July 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really like this book because it takes you straight into the programming; no one likes to learn the theory for the first half.

Its a little hard to understand whats going on at first but later during the book as you advance with your skills you'll understand the concepts and the build up of a Java MIDlet.

I recommend this book for anyone at a beginning level or anyone new to J2ME

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book but you must know the basics, 5 July 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great book, it teaches highly useful techniques that are up to date but you must already have a good understanding of the Java language.

I would say get this book if you've done basic applets before, the author does not go too deep into detail so some of the book you will be looking up classes you haven't seen before or things you don't understand but its a great way to learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful new fight system, 29 May 2009
The new battle system is a breakthrough. If you love previous Final Fantasy games you'll like this one.

The new active battle system takes the FFX battles one step further.

I personally don't like some of the character designs and the storyline isn't all that special but great game overall

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Street Fighter on PSP, 29 May 2009
Its a perfect recreation of street fighter just on PSP. The only thing I can fault it on is the lack of buttons to press (No L2 or R2) but apart from that its Street Fighter.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this game, 29 May 2009
Great game, buy and play it.

Its a great adventure, maybe a little childish for some who prefer games with bloodshed but its a whole load of fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Outdated but useful, 29 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
No doubt well written and probably one of the best of its time although its far out of date.

If your willing to put in the work to find out what methods have replaced the deprecated ones and how to make things work for you then its a good introduction.

Personally I advise finding a more up to date book and learning from that instead.
