1.0 out of 5 stars Fake Anime, 23 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whilst this is dressed up to look like anime its actually an American product made with rather bad computer animation and irritating, chatty voiceovers from annoying cliched characters. I think the story is meant to be a bit of a Harry Potter rip-off, some kids attend a boarding school to teach them how to fight monsters... *yawn*. We stuck with the first hour in the hope that it lived up to the hype but it was hard going.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not essential, 1 Jan. 2017

Little more than a long fannish essay there isn't really much to learn from this book and I found it a little disappointing.

1.0 out of 5 stars One to avoid, 8 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a film based upon a video game which pretty much says it all. With little real plot except some cliches scraped from religion and myths and with an aggressive use of CGI this rapidly becomes tedious.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unusual and Experimental, 16 July 2016
I'm giving this one a mixed review, I found its stream of consciousness narration irritating and never quite figured out what it was meant to be about, but the animation is well done and it deserves an extra star for an experimental approach. However those claiming that this is some kind of masterpiece are way off the mark....

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing compared to the anime, 13 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found this quite disappointing compared to the anime, the characters are woefully miscast and all the tension between the characters of Light and L which made the anime so enthralling is almost completely absent. Personally I would suggest if you enjoyed the anime and want to relive it again then you would be better to re-watch it than expect this disappointing pair of movies to deliver.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable quality mailers but not the strongest, 4 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been using Defendapack for the last couple of years and have been disappointed that their quality has fallen so I thought I would try these as there are some fairly lofty claims in the blurb about how strong these mailers are. These are a little stiffer than the ones I have been using but there is not a lot of difference in it and these do cost at least 60% more (I usually buy a larger quantity so actually cost me more than double). I will be using additional card inside the package to protect the contents when using these but you could try it without. All in all an okay product but I would probably not buy again.

Having used these for a month now I do find them pretty strong with additional cardboard inside, I'd be happy to receive something in this but not quite to my standard to send something on their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good opportunity to see some of Karel Zeman's best known films, 31 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There wasn't a lot of information on this so it was a bit of a gamble buying it! This is self released by the Karel Zeman Museum in Prague and they have other exclusive DVD titles not listed on Amazon too as well as Jan Svankmajer and other animated films available, it seems someone in Prague is being a little enterprising in distributing the film for them internationally.

You have three of Karel Zeman's best know movies:

* Journey To The Beginning of Time - inspired by Jules Verne's book some kids row down the stream of time, observing the life of the ages, mixing models and live action, a little primitive like those old Ray Harryhausen movies and often editing does not quite match but it is entertaining

* The World Of Jules Verne - much better here, the live action merges with animation in the style of the engraved illustrations that accompanied early version of Jules Verne's book. Its very good and well made and exceptionally well restored.

* The Adventures of Baron Munchausen - Again combining animation and live action in a clever manner. Better than the Terry Gilliam version which it inspired.

All have English subtitles and the picture quality is very good.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blood(y) C(rap), 21 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It starts off entertaining but about halfway through you begin to suspect the people making it have as little idea as to what is going on as you have. The payoff is a Scooby Doo ending with an explanation that is somewhere close to incomprehensible, we watched the last two episodes three times over to try to figure out what it was about, my understanding was the town was a fake one created by the government as a kind of zoo for Saya and the monsters and the people were real, no idea who or what Saya was meant to be though! A lot of the fight scenes seem to be criticised for their goriness but they don't look particularly convincing to me. If I had the choice again I would have sat this one out...
