5.0 out of 5 stars Uncovering the past, 15 Feb. 2013

This book is gripping from beginning to end - simply because the full story of the Nazi atrocities in Ukraine have been largely covered up.
John and Carol Garrard are to be praised for their reserach carried out not only from their desks - but on site.
Vasily Grossman was a non-person for many years because of what he wrote - now his story will become better known.

This is classically slanted but should be read even by aspiring pop stars - those who really have some talent.

Bennett is inimtable. This is a master of words at his best, showing what a keen observer of human nature he is.

This book is very reable, and reinforces the theory that World War 1 was about "lions being led by donkeys".

Price: £3.99

4.0 out of 5 stars The little old lady stands the test of time., 17 April 2012

The test for this product was always going to be whether my 5-year old great-grandson approved it.
He was delighted, and quickly learned the first verse off by heart, and is now learning to recite the rest of it.
An old story presented in an attractive setting.

4.0 out of 5 stars They want to forget it., 29 Feb. 2012
This is a well-researched examination of the current attitude of Russians toward their Soviet past.
The author is highly critical of the present resurgence of popularity of past Soviet leaders, which ignores the awful atrocities committed by them.
I doubt if this book will be published in Russian!

5.0 out of 5 stars The start of the USSR - All the details, 24 Jan. 2012
This is a fascinating and massively-researched account of the beginnings of the USSR.
One now sees how the founders' fate hung by a thread, and the whole venture could so easily have failed.
