5.0 out of 5 stars Summer album of the year, 8 Oct. 2004
Having only heard Bottle Rocket when i brought this album, I wasn't sure what to expect.
However, if you're looking for an album to get you going in the morning or cheer you up on a rainy day you woudl be hard pushed to find a better album than this for the job.
Ladyflash, Bottle Rocket, and The Power Is On are all cut and paste numbers in the Avalanche style. However, the music is more layered and joyfully hectic with a real sense of it being compiled live.
The album also flirts with acid jazz and more laid back electronica but it pretty much unclassifiable.
If you want something different and music that will excite you over and over again (i've now listened to the album everyday for the past week since i bought it) then you really should check this out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Return of the real De La, 8 Oct. 2004
This review is from: The Grind Date (Audio CD)
I was more than a little hesitant about this release due to the rnb nature of their two AOI albums.
However, after a couple of listens i would say this is definitely a return to form for De La Soul.
The change in production certainly helps with madlib offeirng a couple of great beats and Jay Dilla serving up some superb backing tracks.
The guests also shine with MF Doom in particular performing to his usual high level.
Basically, if you buy this expecting it to be as good as De La's first three albums you will be disappointed. I doubt they will ever reach those heights again, however, this is still a great hip ho album and it's good to see them still producing the goods after 15 years in the business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another stunning release, 6 Sept. 2004
This review is from: Showtime (Audio CD)
After his stunning debut i was more than a little afraid that Dizzee Rascal's follow up was not going to live up to expectations, either going too commercial or too abstract ala Tricy's Pre Millenium Tension.
However, listening to it for the first time now, it is clear that although his sound has moved on it is still as interesting and unique as before.
With more focus on bass this time, the tracks often sound more like slowed down rephlex music than standard grime.
The rapping as well is still as unique as ever and would definitely recommend you at least give it a try. The second listen is the one which always hooks you......

Good slimline DVD player which is easy to use.
Not had any problems playing region 1 discs on it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good value DVD player.
