A fantastic alt.folk.psych album by dreamy-indie pioneers Pepper Rabbit. The multi-instrumental layers and the slightly off-kilter lyrical themes draw you into a melodic reverie of alternative Americana. It doesn't quite have the uplifting drive of second album Red Velvet Snow Ball but it has a more plaintiff, 'fireside' feel to it. Listen out for Red Wine and None Shall Sleep with its brilliant flurries of drumming and layers of keyboard swirling around the central chord motifs and rhythm,Red Wine excels in its subdued yet sarcastic observations of coming of age themes. This is lovely, listen to it and see for yourself. Send in the horns indeed......

Beautiful indie-folk from sadly defunct band, much missed. If even half of the music today was this nuanced and thoughtful........
Make sure you check out their two albums as well, amazing stuff.

This is sublime alt.indie.folk.pop at its shimmering best. The textured and layered musical arrangements and harmonies are well supported by lyrics and vocals that belie the glossy and often dreamy production. Dance card,Alison,Tiny Fingers and Lake House are simply unforgettable. I love this and would urge anyone who likes indie music to give it a go, you won't regret it,honest!

Outstanding series of Chinese martial arts films, fronted by the incredible yet understated Donnie Yen as Ip Master Wing Chun. Beautifully shot, thoughtful and full of Confucian philosophy and ethics, this series is an absolute must for fans of eastern thought, culture and martial arts.

Brilliant - about as perfect as it gets. Sounds incredibly prescient in terms of its themes and content and the 'double-header' of Numbers / Computer World 2 is a stroke of genius.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lackluster but not awful., 15 Aug. 2014

This is good but not great. The music is a good copy/pastiche of the originals but not a full.sweeping sound like Joe H's original scores, sounds a bit tinny and synthesized in some places. There are no vocals or songs at all and some very notable omissions. All in all it's not bad and obviously cheaper than the Ghibli official release but sounds a bit 'karaoke' and leaves me wishing for the original music from the films every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning album of confessional break up music., 14 Aug. 2014

This album is stunning and has simply become one of my 'must play' records nearly every day, I play it at school during lessons and many of my students have asked about it and checked Keaton out on Youtube where there are some fabulous videos to accompany some of his amazing songs, I first heard 'Charon' on the BBC3 series 'In The Flesh' and couldn't believe that I hadn't heard of him before, especially as a 'Folkie' myself and quite up to date with new artists but Wow! song after amazing song bleeds from this CD : You don't know how lucky you are, Small Hands and Flesh and Bones are all incredible their raw emotion, confessional story-telling and impeccable playing on electric and semi-acoustic guitars just amazing - I will not liken him to any other artist because I feel it detracts from them and from him, you'll just have to listen and find out for yourself. There are some moments when Keaton turns on the power a bit such as on tracks Kronos but essentially this is raw, mellow, semi-acoustic confessional 'break-up'music the likes of which Jake Bugg could only dream of!

This is a beautiful album of songs from the man who recently contributed some of the haunting and touching songs for 'In The Flesh', which if you haven't seen make sure you do soon! Keaton is a sensitive and economical song-writer, knowing when to play with a picking or a strumming style and the songs can be sparse or lush depending on the mood and tone of the songs. I especially love Teach Me, Lying to You and Don't swim for their breathtaking poignancy and their raw emotive power. There is no doubt that these songs are personal and experiential and they are all essentially 'break-up' or break-down? songs, so if you're looking for pop or power ballads or disco you might want to look elsewhere. But for powerful, sensitive and raw emotion with beautiful chords and melodies just put on 'You' and sink back into your chair, your bath or your angst and just lap up the enveloping mood of awesome loneliness and pain.

So Mumford follow up conquering the universe with this collection of songs that really sound like out-takes from the first CD. There are no great stand out songs on this CD for me, no 'Winter Winds' or 'the Cave' or 'Lion Man' etc and the whole thing feels like a slighty rushed attempt to keep their name in the frame before people focus on the next big thing. Not that I blame them for that or anything, despite all the knockers I really liked the first album but this one seems to slide by me without any of the songs really making much of an impact. Still, I doubt it wil stop them going on to even greater recognition, fame, riches and glory and in the right environment I'm sure some of these songs will fill out a great set, however if you were expecting a 'seize the day' moment from this CD you might, like me, just be a little disappointed.
