5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Debut from this Future Star!, 19 Jun. 2015
This review is from: First Time (Audio CD)
Kelsea Ballerini already has a no. 1 hit under her belt with Love Me Like You Mean It, and I expect many more from this bright newcomer. She is already being referred to as the next Taylor Swift (back when she was still country), and I would agree.
The First Time is full of boppy catchy uptempos that will catch you on the first listen- such as XO, Dibs, Underage, Yeah Boy and Looking At Stars. She also includes some personal slow songs, such as the title track ballad The First Time and the impact of her parents divorce on Second Hand Smoke, and the clever song Peter Pan- which I hope will be her next single.
All songs are written or co-written by Kelsea herself, and at just 21 years old I can see this young lady having a successful career in country music.

Prime Tracks: Peter Pan, Looking At Stars, Stilettos, Underage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everlasting Vocalist!, 29 April 2014

Martina takes a temporary break from her country albums to release a covers album full of classic songs by the likes of Elvis, Van Morrison and Aretha Franklin. She also brought on the lengenday Don Was to produce the album.
Like all of Martina's music, her vocals are the standout centrepiece of the album. Her voice works perfectly for these songs, especially on Little Bit Of Rain, If You Don't Know Me By Now and To Know Him Is To Love Him.

Whether you're a long time Martina McBride fan or a casual listener you will love her take on these oldies.

Prime Tracks: Suspicious Minds, Little Bit Of Rain, If You Don't Know Me By Now, To Know Him Is To Love Him.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Slow Sara Evans Down!, 16 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Slow Me Down (Audio CD)
After a less than steller effort from her previous album 'Stronger', Sara Evans is back on form with this great pop/country gem.
The title track and first single is a good example of the rest of this albums overall sound. She's back working with producer Mark Bright, who produced her best album 'Real Fine Place'.
The album moves along at a nice steady pace, through mid-tempos like Put My Heart Down, Not Over You, If I Run and Sweet Spot, to the beauitful ballad Better Off which includes Vince Gill on harmonies. This is the only 'traditional' country sounding song on this album and it works perfectly.

If you're a long time fan of Sara Evan's music then this album will be sure to please you. While it's also a great introduction to her music if you're a newbie.

Prime Tracks: Slow Me Down, Not Over You, Put My Heart Down, Better Off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different..., 11 Feb. 2014
This review is from: That Girl (Audio CD)
Since Jennifer was always the voice of Sugarland, it was inevitable that she would release a solo album. What wasn't apparent is the surprising fact that she would enlist Rick Rubin to produce the album.
Her sound is different yet still somewhat similar to the Sugarland sound as well. It's mainly slow, stripped down and heavy on the ballads. Such as Falling, Me Without You, This Angel and Good Time To Cry.
The title tracks has a Spanish feel to it, while songs like This One's For You and Like A Rock (cover of the Bob Seger song) have a more blues/soul vibe to it.
As always, Jennifers voice shines through and is the highlight of the album. The songs aren't as comercial as Sugarland's and I doubt country radio will give her any big hits, but if you're a fan of the duo, you still should enjoy this album.

Prime Cuts: Falling, Me Without You, That Girl and Good Time To Cry.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Real Kellie Pickler!, 24 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Woman I Am (Audio CD)
Kellie Pickler originally hit the country scene with a more Pop/Country sound before evolving to a more traditional sound on her previous album "100 Proof". She continues with her traditional, old skool country sound but with a little commercial twist and it suits her perfectly. Her vocals sound better than ever and she's finally found her niche.
From the beautiful, simple ballad Someone Somewhere Tonight to the ballsy uptempo Ring For Sale, to her current single Little Bit Gypsy, Kellie shines like never before!
With a new record label and producers Frank Liddell(Miranda Lambert) and Luke Wooten(Dierks Bentley), Kellie gives us a true glimpse into the woman she really is. Treat yourself to some real country music....

Prime Cuts: Little Bit Gypsy, Ring For Sale, The Woman I Am, Someone Somewhere Tonight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy a Lady A Christmas!, 20 Nov. 2012
This review is from: On This Winter's Night (Audio CD)
On This Winter's Night is Lady Antebellum's first full Christmas album, but six of the songs were originally included on their A Merry Little Christmas EP. So you're now getting an extra 6 songs.

They cover some less than obvious choices, such as This Christmas, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), Blue Christmas and a great rendition of Mariah's classic All I Want For Christmas Is You.
With some of the usual classics like The First Noel, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and Silver Bells. Lady A also do a rousing version of Silent Night(Lord Of My Life), a version of the carol that I've never heard before.

The title track is the only original on the album and that's really where the heart of this album lays.

While there is still room for improvement on this Christmas album, Hillary, Charles and Dave's harmonies sound as strong as ever and make On This Winter's Night a great addition to any Christmas collection.

Prime Cuts: All I Want For Christmas Is You, The First Noel, Silent Night(Lord Of My Life), Blue Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Bliss!, 9 Oct. 2012

This review is from: Tornado (Audio CD)
Little Big Town have always been a strong act in country music, but they have reached a new level with Tornado.

The album starts with the killer song Pavement Ends, I dare you to not start shaking the hips to this one.
Which nicely leads in to their most successful single to date and the summer anthem of 2012, Pontoon. This song has reached them to a new level of fans and rightly so.

But as always the true gems are the ballads that show off their powerful harmonies that no other band can beat. Sober, Your Side Of The Bed, and Can't Let Go are all nothing short of stunning.

The title track is indeed the standout song on the album for it's excellent production and beat that they have never used before. It works for them, big time.

The album is wrapped up with the beautiful lullaby style song Night Owl, that ends a magnificent album.

The band decided to change producers for this one and put Jay Joyce (Eric Church) in charge. This was by far the best decision they could have made. Jay has given Little Big Town's music a new lease of life and I can only hope it will continue for the next album.
Do yourself a favor and buy this masterpiece!

Prime Cuts: Pavement Ends, Sober, Tornado, Can't Go Back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Promising Debut From A New Act To Look Out For!, 9 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Edens Edge (Audio CD)
Eden's Edge are new to the country music scene but from this delightful debut, I know they will be here to stay.

They kick things off with their popular first single Amen, which kind of sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Swingin' Door, Skinny Dippin', Too Good To Be True and Who Am I Drinking Tonight all have the same laid back, mandolin/fiddle style that you hear on Amen.
The album is mainly uptempo but the ballads include Last Supper and Liar, which really show off Hannah's strong vocals.

The band wrap things up with the powerful acoustic Christian song Christ Alone.

Eden's Edge debut is pure, easy listening country that you can enjoy singing along to in the car. Highly recommended!

Prime Cuts: Amen, Swingin' Door, Skinny Dippin' , Who Am I Drinking Tonight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Debut From A Newcomer To Watch Out For!, 19 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Jana Kramer (Audio CD)
Jana Kramer may be familiar to people who watch the show One Tree Hill, but she is now leaving behind Hollywood for Nashville.

With this debut, Jana shows us just what type of singer she really is.With her first single Why You Wanna heading towards the Top 10,
it looks like country radio is embracing this talented newbie.

The album is mainly mid to uptempo with catchy songs like Good Time Comin' On, I Hope It Rains, Goodbye California and King Of Apology.
When You're Lonely and Good As You Were Bad provide some heartfelt love songs.

To sum up Jana Kramer's music, think a little Lady Antebellum mixed in with a bit of Lauren Alaina.
Produced by Scott Hendricks (Blake Shelton, Faith Hill) with some of the songs co-written by Jana herself, I suspect this rising star will be staying put in Nashville for the foreseeable future.

Prime Cuts: I Hope It Rains, Why You Wanna, Goodbye California and When You're Lonely.
