5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Learning How to Treat Goldfish The Natural Way, 29 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
On opening the book you are greeted by the author with a brief history of goldfish and their ancestors. It addresses how the myth of the goldfish bowl was started in a quick simple way. Moving on to the next two pages you find a list of sections. The first section being Rescue, Procedures and Treatments, it's here you will find a list of symptoms, the first being the most serious. The great thing about this is each illness is sorted in to classes A,B,C so on and so forth, you are then directed to the appropriate page to where you'll find a natural treatment. As the remedies in this book are natural, there is a high chance you'll already have some of the ingredients, such as garlic, salt or various herbal teas.

The second section guides you through the 10 steps of keeping goldfish. The author herself has had over ten years experience in keeping goldfish and has a very different, but highly effective method, to the one the so call "experts" in the pet shop advise. You'll learn about the Nitrogen Cycle and how to oxygenate you fish tank properly (air pumps are a myth did you know!). I found the explanation of the Nitrogen Cycle simple and easy to understand, I quickly realised carbon filters were not the route I wanted to go down with my tank. The book explains how to keep your fish safe whilst cycling your tank.

The third section is full of articles and all the things you need to know about goldfish, from moving house to floating issues and many more crucial pieces of information. Learning that algae is a good thing was one of the surprises, among the many others this section holds.

All in all I highly recommend this book. There is also a website to accompany the book with the opportunity to receive more one on one advice with the author.

3.0 out of 5 stars No speed settings, 13 Jun. 2012

I bought this thinking it would have a speed setting as most pumps do. This one does not, so it you want it to run slower than 800lph there is no way to turn it down.

If you want to keep goldfish please research before purchasing things like this bowl. It will not make a good home for any animal, certainly not a goldfish.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not touch with a barge pole, 1 Jun. 2012
This review is from: Signal Plastics Fish Bowl (Misc.)
Only lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) fish will survive in this. Goldfish kept in the right environment can live up to 20 YEARS!!! It's extremely unlikely they will reach anywhere near that in a bowl like this. If the ammonia and other toxins don't kill them then the stunted growth will. Goldfish never stop growing but kept in something like this they will, however that is only the fishes body, the organs continue to grow which eventually will cause the fish to develop organ failure. Nearly forgot to mention oxygen deprivation. Goldfish need heavily oxygenated water, you should never see a goldfish gulping at the top of the bowl, this is very bad for them. Air pumps are extremely bad for goldfish and can cause digestive problems. The lack of surface area means lack of oxygen. This bowl is the equivalent of a WWII concentration camp.

Basically if your fish survives in this, it is doing just that, surviving not living.

1.0 out of 5 stars So you want to kill a goldfish?, 1 Jun. 2012
Buy this product and you'll succeed.

One small fry that is around 2cm or one inch long (not including the tail) needs at least 10 litres. Two small fry, same length need 20 litres, basically 10 litres per fish. Keep a fish in this and it's growth will be stunted, it's organs will continue to grow though and they will eventually fail.

Goldfish need plenty of oxygen in their water. This bowl is completely the wrong shape as it has little surface area. You will see a fish in a bowl like this gulping at the top, this is extremely bad for them. An air pump will be of little use, it is a myth that they oxygenate the water, not to mention they are very bad for goldfish.

I highly recommend these speakers, they are brilliant! I thought about buying an ipod but they are way out of my price range so I decided to look for speakers for my Nokia. The loudest they go is just right, especially if you live in a flat like I do. The sound is amazing! I truly believe Nokia has become one of the most underrated of all phones on the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Book, 13 Jun. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I would recommend this book for new fans of the lovely Carole Lombard. It has details about each of her films and a few pages about her life. The only thing I would have asked for is more pictures, but other then that it's a good basic book. If you already know a lot about Carole and her films then only get this to add to your collection and don't expect to find a ton of new information. I am glad to see a new book on Carole Lombard she really deserves to be remembered.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Disappointed, 23 May 2011

This review is from: Born This Way (Audio CD)
Not a bad album but it doesn't live up to The Fame Monster. The best track on the album is You and I, if it had a few more songs like this it would have been a lot better. I like Americano and The Edge of Glory also. But I think the rest sounds pretty much alike. For me Gaga has already run out of ideas, so much of this album sounds like early Madonna material. And she tries to pull the exact same shock tactics, like the religeous themed songs. That in my opinon is what makes the album seem dated. Also the is too much dance music, I liked her more down tempo songs and the tunes on The Fame Monster, but with this album is mainly all got the same beat. It is great for dancing to but no so much for just listening. It lacks anything paticularly different and for me blends in with most other music coming from the US. This album sounds rushed and the song have not had as much thought put in compared to her previous music.
