3.0 out of 5 stars Beware the size..., 11 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great book...it's just that I didn't pay attention to the dimensions. It's about the size of a postcard. Think pamphlet. It's shame as it really is a nice book with fantastic illustrations. Just don't, as I did, buy it as a gift. I know size isn't everything but I can already see the look of disappointment on my nephews face. I suppose I could disguise it in a box but that would only make things worse.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wish the world had ended while I was watching it!, 12 July 2010
This review is from: 2012 [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
Hats off to everyone involved in the making of this film. It is by far the worst thing I have ever seen. Terrible effects, acting, script...the list goes on. On top of this, it also has an unhealthy dose of religious sub-plots...well, I say 'plots'. The only thing that could have made this pile of pap any worse would be God turning up at the end and chanting 'USA, USA!'. Mindless drivel. We were expecting a shallow 'Saturday night' film but ended up with this. Don't ever buy, rent or even think about watching this film. Do yourself a favour and stare at the wall for a couple of hours instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jump, Jived and Stung, 11 Jun. 2010

One thing not mentioned in the other reviews is that no track on this CD is older than the 1990's...hence some pretty souless over production. My advice is, if you like 50's swing buy something recorded in the 50's. Not this. That said, if you like music by, say, Jools Holland, you'll probably love this. It just ain't my scene!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dig those harmonies!, 18 Jun. 2008

For a debut album, this is truly stunning work. If you want an essentially meaningless comparison, look no further than Pet Sounds era Beach Boys. There are some melodies on this CD that will leave you speachless, wondering how anyone could come up with something so beautiful in this cynical age. Also check out their accompanying EP, Sun Giant (the first half of Mykonos brought tears to my eyes!) Simply wonderful and probably the album of 2008.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Believe The Hype!, 18 Mar. 2008
This review is from: Saturnalia (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD purely on the strength of the reviews it's been receiving...big mistake! Maybe they stuck the wrong CD in the case when I bought it? I've tried listening through it twice (the second time I gave up halfway through). Dull tunes, contrived lyrics...the star I gave was for the wonderful photograph on the cover. Unfortunately that's about the only positive thing I can say about this shockingly over-hyped effort. Imagine if you left Metallica out in the rain for too long - this is what you'd end up with. The word that springs to mind is 'dirge'. If you're interested in getting hold of a copy I'll be leaving mine on the No. 9 bus on the way home...

5.0 out of 5 stars Quit Moaning!, 21 Aug. 2006
Okay, first of all the 5 stars are for the films themselves. As for a review, I'm fairly sure most human beings have now seen the star wars saga, and most alien species don't use the DVD format anymore anyway. The simple fact is, if you would love to see the films as they were originally released all those years ago, buy this DVD. If you don't, don't buy it. Spend the £14 on a Friday night out on the town instead but please, please, quit your moaning. I bet half of you sourpusses spend twice this amount every week on cigs! Big George ain't calling you up on the phone and forcing you to buy them!

Oh dear, if only my fellow reviewer had read what it says on the sleeve of this CD! This is another ghoulish classic from the vaults of ACE records. A fine mixture of Doo Wop, Rock 'n' Roll and just a pinch of Frat Rock...and who could turn down a novelty Frankenstein song or two! Pull you sweetheart close and get ready for some spooky sounds from the crypt. Go-Go Dracula Go!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Future of Country Folk, 19 Mar. 2004
This review is from: MORGAN WILD / 5TH GEAR (Vinyl)
This is a truly excellent album, very much in the veign of new artists like Jeffrey Williams but rooted firmly in traditional American folk music. The low-fi recording only adds to the atmosphere - you can actually feel the stomping feet and every fret buzz on the slide guitar. Charlie Parr has come up with some fine alt country tunes as well as re-working old favourites like Going Up The Country. Put this on and sit back on your front porch for some of the finest new music to come out of the US country music scene. Yeehaw!
