5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing..., 12 May 2014

So Island Records have resurrected the 'Pink' folk label for a new act's first release. Can it really be worth it? Oh yes it can! THis is a wonderful release that has all the echoes of the heritage of the 'pink' label. Of course it is impossible to listen to this without recognising the parentage of the female vocalist (Kami is of course the daughter of Richard and Linda Thompson) and this husband and wife performance (Kami and her husband James Walbourne) reveals that passion without being simply a retreading of the past.
This album has power, passion, tradition and a blossoming future.
There are a lot of offspring seventies folk family around today, Blair Dunlop, Eliza Carthy, Teddy Thompson, a variety of Wainwrights and many more... but this is perhaps the release that has brought me the biggest smile.
Buy it... you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome... but..., 12 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is truly an amazing set of CDs, the early acoustic session from 1973 is wonderful, but best of all is the two CDs that showcase the 1975 Main Point Benefit Gig. My only reservation is that I already have all this stuff! If you purchased 'Bound For Glory' and 'The Main Point' released in 2011 by LeftField Media, then so do you. If you don't have them then by this... the packaging has less information, but the price is good,,, but don't be fooled into thinking this is all new material.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what it says it is..., 12 May 2014

This is of course a historical work (17th Century), priced as it is because it is in the public domain. However that does not devalue the work and its importance. My issue with it is the subtitle 'A commentary on the New Testament'. This is NOT a commentary on the New Testament it covers the Gospels but has no coverage of the rest of the New Testament.

If you are looking for a wondrous piece of seventeenth century work on the Gospels then this is for you, but I was looking for work on the Epistle of James and this is just not there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every day hurts..., 16 July 2009
This review is from: Facades/Sad Cafe (Audio CD)
Oh the memories this CD brought to the forefront of my thoughts. A weekend of love followed by the heartbreak of loss and then the choice of how the week would go. Would I eat or buy music? Is that really a choice? So it was the Rolling Stones' 'Emotional Rescue' and Sad Cafe's 'Facades'... Every Day Hurt back then...

And now to listen to that great album afresh. And alongside it an album I never owned but equally love. This is a great package at a great price... buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lateral thinking... connectivity!, 16 July 2009
Too often we treat books of the bible in a disconnected way or in a way that simply makes academically uninformed simplistic connections. This collection of essays, by a number of todays leading scholars in the field of academic New Testament studies, seeks to go beyond the superficial to ask deep questions about the connectedness of New Testament.

It is not for the uninformed amateur, but does provide a well reseach starting point for further studies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The changing face of Martyn Joseph...., 13 Jun. 2009
This review is from: Evolved (Audio CD)
A good song is an evolving process, particularly for a great live musician... and Martyn is just that. As a songwriter he lives to perform and so his songs, his off-spring, grow and develop with time... and this is just what we see here.

Usually the listener, the fan, only gets to experience this change through live performance or live albums, but here Martyn returns to the studio and rerecords songs spanning a considerable part of his career, to show the evolution of a song.

This is an experience and a joy... buy it, you won't be disappointed as you get to hear what the grown up versions sound like. Thankfully they have kept in trim, none of the fat of middle age, and so this fifteen song set will have you trotting back to the earlier albums to listen afresh to the large back catalogue of this Welsh gemstone.
