5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book, Great reference!, 18 May 2011
Having purchased a few of Scotts books I thought this was the one I was waiting for and I wasn't dissapointed, the book is laid out well in typical Kelby style with easy to follow instructions, however if like myself who has been using photoshop for a number of years, I found myself skipping over things like how to create a black mask etc, although fully understand the need for it to be there, the book has some great techniques which I will certainly be using in my workflow, you can also download all of the images Scott used to enable you to practice the techniques.
The other great thing about this book is the fact that you can keep going back to it for reference, I have learnt many techniques over the years and forgotton just as many, you simply cannot remember them all especially if you use them infrequently, this is where this book comes in as a great reference tool.

I would highly reccommend the book to anyone who shoots portraits and processes their own work in photoshop.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Secrets Here, 18 May 2010
This book is a showcase for Ricks images and there are plenty of them! there is very little in the way of HDR secrets as the books title suggests.

I read the whole of this book on and off over the course of one evening, for the 1st 3rd of the book Rick was letting you know what you were going to learn later in the book with his repeated phrase "we will learn about that later" well, later came about 65 pages in, I thought to myself, about time! only to be disappointed further, Rick does tell you what programs and plugins he uses to create his HDR images but does not guide you in how to use them effectively, there is a brief description on what the sliders do but the only advice he offers is "play with the sliders".

Am now looking for a real book on HDR, this one has gone straight to the top shelf never to be picked up again I'm afraid (except maybe to place it in the bin)
