5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting end to a great show., 15 May 2013

I watched this show religiously when it was first broadcast on channel 4. Sadly, after the sixth season, the rights were bought by Sky (which I didn't have) so I wasn't able to continue with the show. When the first 4 series were released on DVD, I was ecstatic. Finally, FINALLY, I would get to see the show in it's entirety. But then the releases stopped. However last year, a studio (Mediumrare) I'd never heard of before announced they would be releasing the remaining series, and, even better, within a short space of time. So I began purchasing each series and have just finished watching Season 12.

In my opinion, the character of Andy Sipowicz is one of the greatest characters to have ever appeared on US television (Tony Soprano, Vic Mackey and Al Swearengen I consider to be in the same league). From his battle with alcoholism in the earlier series, to the death of his son and wife (Andy Jnr and Silvia, and to the deaths of 2 of his partners (Bobby Simone and Danny Sorenson), audiences have gone through every moment with him in the past 12 years. So for him to finally be given command of the squad at the end of the series seemed like the most appropriate way to end things.

A particular highlight for me was Jimmy Smits making an un-credited cameo in an earlier episode to appear in a dreamlike sequence to a distraught Andy. I wondered if any other familiar faces would appear as the show ground to a halt, but nothing materialised.

Most fans of the show have had 8 years to mourn, and come to terms with, the end of this wonderful cop drama. I'm only experiencing this now, and my first reaction was to wish that there had been more series made. But looking back at the 12 year run, I think the show went out at the right time and didn't outstay it's welcome, something many other shows never learn to do.

Other than the 20 final episodes, the only extra you'll get is a photo gallery. It's a no frills package, but it's something that doesn't bother me at all. I'm just pleased that I can now finally watch one of my all time favourite shows from beginning to end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Essential? That's debatable!, 12 May 2009

I'm a fan of Hype, let's get that out of the way. I have mixtapes from him from back in the day so i think he's a good DJ. He's also got one of the best ears for new talent. Original Sin, Taxman ... the list goes on. His various labels consistently release top, best selling tunes. So when a mix album gets released, you can't help but get excited. Or so i thought.

Do i love most of the tracks on this 2 CD compilation? Absolutely. But why i only give this review 3 stars is because of the little time most of these tracks get played. For me, this album is clearly aimed at the saturated Tesco 'My first ever DNB album' market. Ok, it gives listeners a taste of what new tunes are currently destroying the underground. But as someone who has been into DNB from the very beginning, this mix just doesn't cut it. It's not actually Hypes fault. It's the marketing people thinking it a great idea to cram nearly 60 tunes into 2 hours. To really appreciate a mix, you need to hear each record for at least a few minutes each. I reckon they should have had only included half the tracks so that Hype could spend longer and deeper in the mix. But hey. If you want a proper mix, go to the various forums like i do and download them.

Great DJ, great tunes. Disappointing mix.

1.0 out of 5 stars Queen of the banned, 30 Oct. 2008
Where, oh where, do i begin?? I have to confess, I'm not a fan of Anne Rice's novels. But I did watch Interview with a Vampire and, whilst the film was camper than Lord Baden Powell on a scout mission, i found it quite enjoyable.

So, when I saw the next installment coming out, I decided to go and see it in the cinema with my mate Doug who has also just posted a review.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Why was Stuart Townsend cast for a start? I guess the filmmakers wanted a relatively unknown actor to play Lestat. Well, the film must have done really well as Stuart's a household name now!!!! The man cannot act at all. Clearly his trousers were spray painted on which must have starved him of oxygen for him to act better.

Aliyah is a pretty girl. And it was a real shame her last-ever film was this!!! She was unfortunately killed in a plane crash shortly after filming had finished. I personally believe she would have gone on to do bigger and better films than this. Her acting wasn't great but let's not forget she was a singer first. Acting was her 2nd love.

The film itself has no redeeming features. The effects were awful, the scenery at times looked like wobbly bits of cardboard. The dialogue was pain-inducing.

In short, this film should NEVER HAVE BEEN MADE. Warner Bros - consider yourselves told off!!!

Oh. And in case you were wondering, yes, I do own it on DVD!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great little slasher flick, 24 July 2008

When i saw this in theatres earlier this year, i didn't really know what to expect. The film was originally meant to come out last year but it had trouble finding a distributor. That generally isn't a good sign.

Well i'm glad they finally did find a company to release the movie. From the opening scene, which contains a truly gobsmacking moment, the film draws you into it's lair. Whilst the characters aren't particularly likeable, that's not necessarily a bad thing because then you can enjoy the weird and wonderful ways they meet their demise.

Amber Heard, who plays the title character, is impressive and it's no suprise that since this film, she's gone on to do more mainstream movies.

The thing i hate most about critics is that horror films never seem to get a fair deal. Horror is a category that people either love or hate. And if the reviewer hates horror films, then the review, no matter how good the film is, will get slated.

In this day and age, it's good to see films like 'Mandy Lane' get a theatrical release. Sure, it's a low budget film and probably won't be seen by many people. But to me, this movie is a throwback to the best decade for horror films, the 70's.

Check this film out. It's unsettling for sure, but the ending will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa (125 Anniversary) (Spurs) [DVD]
Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa (125 Anniversary) (Spurs) [DVD]
Dvd ~ Tottenham Hotspur V Aston Villa

5.0 out of 5 stars What a comeback!, 11 Mar. 2008
I'm really looking forward to watching this game again and will certainly purchase it on it's release. On the night, it was a case of mixed emotions. The atmosphere in the ground was fantastic. Some Spurs legends came out for a pre-match interview as well which was wonderful.

Then the game started and we went 1-0 up. Everything was going well. And then ...... Villa equalised. Then went 2-1 up, then another, then ANOTHER. I, like many of the other supporters in the ground that night, were on a rollercoaster of emotions. What should have been a memorable night was turning into a night to remember but for all the wrong reasons.

All of a sudden, we got our 2nd goal, then a 3rd. Surely, we can't get a 4th??? But a 4th is what we did get, equalising in the dying minutes of the game. The stadium erupted. The flags that were given out at the start of the match were frantically flying. You'd have thought we'd won a cup final. But to be 4-1 down, to come back to 4-4, it was a marvelous achievment for the boys.

I can watch this match now, relaxed in the knowledge of how the night turned out.

A must purchase for all spurs fans. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 of the best!!!, 7 Mar. 2008
This review is from: Hospital Mix 6 (Audio CD)
What a price. What a mix. What an album. If you're a fan of the Hospital label, you'll have heard of most of the names here. Starting the mix with one of my favourite Hospital records, High Contrast's 'Metamorphosis', Cyantific does a brilliant job here, sometimes mixing 3 records at once!!! Danny Byrd's old skool 'Shock out' is on here, as is another fav of mine, Muffler's 'Mermaids'.

Sure, 30 tracks is a lot and as the other reviewer has mentioned, some tracks only last a minute or so. But the whole purpose of these Hospital mix volumes is to give you a taste of the label, and for you then to go out and buy the tracks you like on vinyl, if you haven't already done so.

This is an essential purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely blinding, 7 Mar. 2008
This review is from: Call To Mind (Audio CD)
This album needs no introduction. The massive anthems 'call to mind', 'satellite type 2' and 'how you gonna feel' are included. Every track is superb. My favourite though is 'Emily's smile'.

The only downside is that 'talk to frank' isn't included. But nevertheless, all DNB heads shouldn't need encouragement to purchase this album. It should be automatic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch the ride!!, 8 Feb. 2008
This review is from: The Master Plan (Audio CD)
2 cd's, first one containing a great mix from Marky showcasing all the talented artists he's signed to his Innerground label. Standout track for me is Seba and Krazy's 'Arsenic'. Cd2 has unmixed tracks, some of which appear on the first cd. Very disappointed that 'Arsenic' is not one of those tracks as i'd have liked that tune in it's entirety. Hopefully it'll be released on vinyl soon. A must purchase anyway.

Fabric, in my opinion, always bring out excellent Drum 'n' Bass cd's, mixed by the best DJ's around at the time. Marcus Intalex delivers big time. I'm a fan of all genre's within DNB, ranging from the Good Looking sound to the darker aspects. This mix is a very smooth, but tough at times ride and you won't be disapointed. Great to see Soul Matics 'Self Belief' on here. Can't wait for it to be released on 12". But the track that stands up way higher than all the others put together is Marcus's remix of Commix's 'Faceless'. This is an absolute tune! Worth the price of admission alone.
