This review is from: Inspired by... 2015 (Hardcover)
Stephen Terry is a chef from the same mould as Ramsay, Pierre White and Wareing but has managed to stay mainly under the radar. This book is part autobiography and part idea's based on the dishes Stephen's produced down the years. A lot of the dishes feature Italian ingredients and ideas on how to prepare them, this isn't a recipe book so those who want a step-by-step instructional book won't enjoy this one.

However the more experienced home cook will get ideas and inspiration from the vast array of ingredients, let your imagination take control.

Having just come back from Buenos Aires and experienced the amazing Barbecue (Parilla) culture throughout the city, I was desperate to recreate the food from the city. This book is fantastic for exactly that. Simple recipes, easy to follow technique and incredible end results. Get the BBQ on and have some fun!

This is a brilliant book. The food they serve across the restaurants (Salt Yard, Opera Tavern, Ember Yard etc) can be easily recreated using this book, the results so far have been spot on.

Recommend trying to get Iberico Pork online to get the full appreciation of the recipes as its some of the best meat in the world.

I'm yet to pick up a more thought-provoking, inspiring book such as this one. Nico's journey from teaching himself how to cook to the industry's top accolade of three Michelin stars is remarkable. The book was written before Nico won the top prize but looking through the recipe's it's not hard to see why he reached the very top.

The recipe's do come with pictures for certain dishes but the food, for the most part, is simple and of high quality and taste incredibly despite being published almost 30 years ago. Try the Foie Gras with Orange and the Beef Tornedos.

If you're thinking of having a crack at The Fat Duck Cookbook this is a good place to get used to the techniques, its also a lot more user friendly.

Have made the buttered crab loaf so far and it came out amazing, the recipes all appeal and the layout of the book is simple and smart. The recipes are based on historic dishes with a modern interpretation as found in the restaurant 'Dinner By Heston'.

Well worth getting, another brilliant book from the great man.

The Fat Duck Cookbook
The Fat Duck Cookbook

5.0 out of 5 stars Entering the elite, 9 Jun. 2015
This review is from: The Fat Duck Cookbook (Hardcover)
Had this book for a while now and its one that plays with the emotions as well as the senses. Over time you will find yourself intrigued, inspired, loving an idea, going to cook the dishes and getting to the stage of hating the damn book for keeping you confined to the kitchen for the best part of a week, being amazed by your results, getting the satisfaction of the reactions of those you have made it for. You may even vow never again to attempt a recipe out of here, but you will keep going back for more, its one of the strangest books I've ever come across in my massive collection, but only this book has this effect.

No doubt Blumenthal is a one-off, completely obsessed with the idea of multi-sensory cooking and the science behind it. The book isn't easy, that's because it isn't meant to be, take what you want from it though, make yourself think of how to get around the absence of a paco-jet or thermomix. Definitely one for the keen amateur with the help of experience. Just remember, it can be done.

Great read. The man has had quite a life. From losing his brother at a young age to learning discipline through the army and boxing resulting in world titles and fame it's a thrilling read. Glad
that Nigel has found peace and is living a much less painful existence.

Paul Merson had it all, then lost it and then found it again. The book is one to keep the reader hooked by its easy reading style and pathway through the incredible career Paul has had. Hilarious, tragic, awe inspiring and honest. Well worth the gamble.

Bruce's Cookbook
Bruce's Cookbook
by Bruce Poole
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £25.00

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourites, 9 July 2014
This review is from: Bruce's Cookbook (Hardcover)
Having eaten at Chez Bruce and enjoying the delights that Bruce Poole and his team had to offer it was a joy to have this book come my way for Christmas.

Flicking through the cookbook doesn't follow traditional script, each recipe is explained in detail so you're left in no doubt about how things should look, feel and taste. The personal touch that Bruce provides in the narrative of the recipes is appreciated and will raise a smile.

Strongly recommend this book for anyone who is thinking of taking up French cookery or just likes great tasting food.
