1.0 out of 5 stars Should really be five star, 10 Nov. 2016

Giving this a one star because the album was advertised by Amazon as the 2013 version with bonus tracks but when I got it it was the original version which I already had. I should have known that it eas to good a bargain to be true. Had so much hassle trying to reurn that it would have cost more than I paid. Put it into a local charity where hopefully somebody will get a real bargain.

The album is actually superb like most of McNabb's stuff.

Along with Peter Hammill he vs one of the most criminally neglected talents the UK has ever produced.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting collaboration, 10 Nov. 2016

Interesting album. Musically very similar in style to much of 'What Might Have Been'. There are also elements of 'Consequences'. I get the impression though that Peter has lots of bits and pieces of songs sitting on the shelf waiting for opportunities such as this collaberation to bring to fruition. Therefore, there are some songs that sound a bit disjointed and some that sound like the result of improvisation in the manner of 'Spur of the Moment'. However, the better songs (in my opinion) when they appear are clear standouts.

If you are a longstanding Hammill fan (as I am) there is much here for you to enjoy but this is perhaps not the best album for those unfamiliar with Hammill's massive and impressive back catalogue.

Still have to say yet again that PH is perhaps one the most original but under-rated and unrecognised songwriters of the last 40 years.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Lost' out on 5 stars, 29 Feb. 2016

Great to have almost all of BBC's VdGG material chronologically placed on one album. I say 'almost all' as it would have been a 5 star review had 'Lost' and 'Octopus' been included - irrespective of the sound quality but for the sake of completion. Apart from one or two tracks I already had most of the material on my copies of 'The Box' and 'Maida Vale' but at the price I paid it was well worth the purchase to obtain the *starred * tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars More tonal paintings from the Van Gogh of the sax, 29 Feb. 2016

Fans of Jaxon's work with VdGG, Peter Hammill and the Long Hello will appreciate this live collaboration. David's unique sax sound and his virtuosity on a variety of wind instruments are complemented by Rene's impressive percussive skills (David seems to like working with Vans). Together they paint, in their own minimalist manner, tonal pictures that are in turn menacing, avant-garde and pastoral. Long time Hammill and VdGG followers will particularly enjoy his take on 'Traintime', 'We Go Now' and 'The Clot Thickens'.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... one other customer's review I found this to be good value - all NH''s tracks on one album, 31 Aug. 2015

Despite one other customer's review I found this to be good value - all NH''s tracks on one album. I own a vinyl copy of the 1st album but had never heard the 2nd. As a major fan of Hatfield & the North's 'The Rotters Club' (one of my fave albums ever) I really enjoyed hearing three quarters of them playing again. Ideal listening in the car (but only when wife and kids are not present).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album in *any* genre., 7 Aug. 2014

I would go further than the previous reviewer and say that 'Rohallion' is one of my favourite albums in *any* genre. I had the privilege of telling that to Jim Malcolm himself at one of his recent concerts in Glasgow. I was introduced to the work of Jim Malcolm by a friend who is a folk musician and, although I do not have many folk albums in my collection, had to get my hands on a copy. It is a very eclectic album and Jim's superb singing easily lends itself to many styles. His distinct guitar style and sound is also a main feature of this and his other albums. Check out his other albums also. His song 'Jimmy's gone to Flanders' on the album 'Resonance' is one of the most poignant, yet understated, anti-war songs I have ever heard and is particularly relevant in 2014. Get this album. You will not be disappointed and indeed will want to hear more. It is a travesty that he is not much more widely recognised and given the credit and the acclaim that he truly deserves.

A bargain price for reasonably rare recording. I am well pleased with it -especially as it was hard to pick up at such a bargain price.

A good buy. Very good condition discs and case. A much better buy than Anthology 1 even though it was not much dearer.

Fair enough value for money. Case a bit scuffed but CD playable. 'Very Good' rating may be pushing the boat out a bit but overall OK.
