The Shadow Rising: Book 4 of the Wheel of Time: 4/12
by Robert Jordan
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: £6.99

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much Nynaeve et al pulls her braids, wears a dress and eats some food, 1 May 2014
As other reviewers have said I found the women Nynaeve, Elayne & Egwene very annoying. Too much mundane descriptions of what they were doing, feeling and wearing. Who would send three accepted after black ajah? Lambs to the slaughter. Not that the ending was in any way good closure on this plot line but then there are more books for that I suppose.
Why wasnt the stilling of the amyrlin described better? Isnt that an important event?
I did like the two rivers battle though and Perrin is a great character.
Makes me wonder if the author had strong women in his life?

Kaspersky has a great detection rate and the interface is clean and not distracting. Its also in teal which is a great colour. Instant download from Amazon is also cool. Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great graphics and gameplay, 22 Oct. 2012

This review is from: Diablo III (PC/Mac DVD) (DVD-ROM)
The artwork and effects in the game are superb. The water ripples in the sewer level, the lighting effects and architecture are great. Each hit has a satisfying "thwap". Awesome cutscenes at end of Acts.

The not so good - loot drops. Im on act 2 and have seen many magical items and a few rare ones from bosses. I guess for legendary items its the auction house.

No true customisation of your character. You have skills and runes but thats it.

In summary this could and should have been a not always online game. Aside from that, worth buying if you like dungeon crawlers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless examples, 11 Oct. 2012
Well written technical books have many examples which the author guides you through step by step; or they have an example which is developed further as you proceed through the book.

This book has neither - the examples are useless i.e. open the tag, put in content, close the tag.

There is some good information there but really it can be summed up by p180: "CSS2 is the version best supported across browsers both new and old so this book will cover it extensively."

3.0 out of 5 stars The good the bad and the endless, 26 Aug. 2012
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
The good:

Great graphics
Great UI very streamlined and intuitive
Good soundtrack

The bad

Approval system - it punishes you for expanding both within the same star system and also colonising other stars. There are tech to limit these effects
Combat - no direct control over your ships. You have two choices for combat - auto resolve or manual. Manual you get to watch a pretty video and then play one of three cards - long, medium or short range and hope your cards counter the AI. I always played auto resolve.
Invasion - dont know really how this is supposed to work - I was orbiting an enemy system and pressed invade but nothing happened. Its like the invasion happens behind the scenes.
AI - erratic and even on easiest difficulty I was behind most of the game
Tech tree - complex and you dont want to specialise in one segment or you'll lose. AI often proposes a deal whereby you give it resources for nothing in return.

I recommend playing a slow game and researching tech in a circle so you cover all segments. That way you may stand a chance against the AI.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crashes PC when doing c drive backup, 26 July 2012
Like someone else wrote, this either works or it doesnt. My documents backups worked fine. C drive backup didnt. On multiple occasions it locked up the PC. I googled this and ensured that Volume Shadow Copy was set to automatic and started. Not happy, will go elsewhere.

My PC? Win64 Home premium with 16GB ram

1.0 out of 5 stars Cant complete novus campaign even with patches, 15 July 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
I downloaded the latest patches and was playing this on Win 7 64bit. Got to the end of the first (Novus) campaign and at the end of mission 7 you get a black screen. No amount of tweaking gets you off it - so you cant go on to the next faction - Hierarchy. Uninstalled and this is going in the bin. Piece of crap. Caveat Emptor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing drivel, 9 July 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
First off when you autorun the CD it installs the soviet expansion not the original world in conflict. You have to explore the CD to get to install the original.
Once playing game play is intense - there is never a let up in the action which wouldn't be bad if the groupings worked correctly. Too many times I didn't know where my units were despite grouping them. Also the drop off points seem to always be way far away from the current objective. Uninstalled and CD will go to horse charity.

1.0 out of 5 stars very poor router, 8 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We have virgin media 100mb broadband with the super hub. When putting the super hub in modem only mode and setting up this router - laptop wireless g performance was very slow and kept dropping out. The menu isnt exactly intuitive either - Im a computer nerd and I found the menu more difficult to navigate than the super hub.

So back it goes for a refund and we will stick with the super hub - which has given us no complaints thus far.
