4.0 out of 5 stars Up to Cornwell's Usual Standard of Excellence, 28 Nov. 2013

I have read everything Patricia Cornwall has written - and this novel does not disappoint. But then, Kay Scarpetta's family and friends have become my own family and friends.

It's good to catch up on the exciting lives they have led since I last dropped in on them!

2.0 out of 5 stars superficial page filler, 31 Oct. 2013
OK as a Sociology 1.01 term assignment but hardly worth the read. The writing suffered from many of the criticisms levelled by the author at his targeted "offenders".

This review is from: Putin's Russia (Kindle Edition)
Although Politkovskaya declares the book is a very personal and selective view of Russia under Putin, it has an amazing list of governmental atrocities and corruption that can easily be cross-referenced.
The fact that Politkovskaya was assassinated some time after the book was released is telling of its stimulation of Putin's ire and of what happens to those who dare to challenge his criminal rule.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really worth the read., 9 Oct. 2013

A bit amateurish, a bit trite and a lot parochial. Not particularly well written. I should not have bought it without first obtaining a sample. (Then I wouldn't have bought it.)

4.0 out of 5 stars A good summary of how it really is., 9 Oct. 2013

Luke Harding shows a great deal of intestinal fortitude, both in the way he dealt with the Russian state's intimidation at the time and by writing this detailed summary of its behaviour.
I am sure he must still be looking over his shoulder.
