I'll try to be as unbiased as possible since it must be known that I am a big fan of Rob Zombie's films and to me THE LORDS OF SALEM is his brilliant masterpiece. With that said I'll continue to try and write about this film as a total observer.

Rob Zombie surely made his mark in horror movie history. From some shaky beginnings (HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES), to bringing his own stylistic approach to a horror classic (HALLOWEEN). He has shown that his filmmaking skills have improved over time, and have in the end paid off very nicely. THE LORDS OF SALEM is Rob Zombie's fifth horror film and unfortunately may be his last according to some reports. It tells the tale of Radio DJ Host Heidi Hawthorne who receives a box containing a vinyl record of a band known only as 'The Lords'. She assumes it's a new band trying to get their name out and decides to play it for her listening audience, but upon hearing the sinister tune Heidi and some of the other female residents of Salem become entranced and somewhat traumatised by it. It brings on many flashbacks of the Salem Witch Trials and Heidi realises that she is apart of a bigger plan when the Lords of Salem return.

This film is all about the visuals, which is why I think this film got a lot of mixed reviews from people who aren't familiar with this style. Rob Zombie takes a page from some of the most visually stunning horror films like SUSPIRIA, THE SHINING, and ROSEMARY'S BABY and creates his own nightmare which is what makes the film stand out amongst his others. Mr. Zombie has replaced shock gore (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) for a more slow-burn to give the feeling of foreboding dread. It works very well but again, if you're not the kind of person who enjoys those kinds of horror films then it'll probably bore you. I highly praise Rob Zombie for going out on a limb and giving us something different, and definitely something for his audience to talk about no matter if it's negative. I just hope he doesn't throw in the horror towel quite yet because judging by this film he is only getting better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nighty Night.. don't let the bedbugs bite!, 13 April 2013
I first came across this series not knowing anything about it. Which I think is the perfect way to enter this dark (and I do mean dark) world that is NIGHTY NIGHT. Julia Davis (the star and creator of the series) plays Jill Tyrell, a sociopathic, manipulative woman who upon discovering her husband Terry has cancer decides to move on and find someone new. Soon her eyes are set upon a doctor named Don. Unfortunately for Jill, Don is married. His wife Cath suffers from MS and is sometimes wheelchair bound because of her condition. But does this stop Jill? Hell no! Jill knows what she wants and nothing will get in her way come hell or high water. The series pushes the boundaries of comedy with it's unapologetic look at the character of Jill and how far she is willing to go in order to get what she wants.

Bizarre, disturbing, and often shocking, NIGHTY NIGHT may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure beats a lot of other shows out there.
