5.0 out of 5 stars Great to see this back, 5 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Quantum Jump (Audio CD)
Well done Esoteric for re-releasing this - excellently remastered with a wealth of bonus cuts and pretty good booklet

Now where's the re-release of Barracuda which in my opinion (but not most peoples) is even better?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not essential, 26 Aug. 2014
This review is from: Live - Afterlife (Audio CD)
Good live album for Joe and the boys

Nothing startlingly new but a few subtle variations of mood and texture within the arrangements makes this a fine addition to his work

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps on a rockin' and a boppin', 26 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great set of stuff from the 60s which shows that his talents weren't wasted during that decade

By missing out the movie soundtrack fluff and the gospel/religious elements we can see a clear picture of the pop/rock sensibilities still being very much in place

It sounds great as well - crystal clear production values

And such good value at the moment

3.0 out of 5 stars Is there any need?, 26 Aug. 2014
This review is from: Acoustic Classics (Audio CD)
I've bought it and played it and I'm just not sure when I'll need to play it again

Frankly there's absolutely nothing wrong with this - brilliant songs executed very well

I just question the need for this if you are a dyed in the wool Thompson fan

None of these versions match the originals in my opinion and I reckon the whole project is aimed at a market of people new to his work

As a round up best of with no elecrical extremes it makes for a very pleasant collection

I don't really think we need Richard Thompson's work to be very pleasant though

5.0 out of 5 stars An all round excellent package, 13 Aug. 2014
Superb version of this classic album - the remixing is superaltive and on the 5.1 mix brings out whole swathes of textures and subtle nuances that were merely hinted at before. An all round excellent package

4.0 out of 5 stars A career closing (at the time) document of an excellent concert. The single disc version was always good, 12 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A career closing (at the time) document of an excellent concert. The single disc version was always good, here in it's remastered form it absolutely sparkles. The unedited full concert gives you the whole overview of the band at that time. I always preferred my Man with added Phil Ryan who's keyboard colourings add so much. And John McKenzie's bass playing is a lot brighter than previous encumbents

5.0 out of 5 stars ... guy and his band at Cropredy Festival - outstandingly good. Excellent live performers with a great audience rapport, 12 Aug. 2014
This review is from: Too Close To Here (Audio CD)
Just saw this guy and his band at Cropredy Festival - outstandingly good. Excellent live performers with a great audience rapport, bought the album and after a couple of hearings this lives up to expectations. Very good songwriting, strong performances and suggests that he has a very bright future

5.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag, 9 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm giving this 4 stars, 5 for Cardiff Rose and 3 for Roger McGuinn and band

Cardiff Rose is a cracking album full of imaginative arrangements and well crafted songs

Impeccably played by a band that was hard wired after relentlessly touring with Dylan throughout 75/76

Roger McGuinn and Band suffers by comparison - lazily resurrecting Lover of the Bayou and short changing us by having an album less than half an hour long - you could get away with that in the 60s but by this stage that was poor fare. Knocking on Heavens Door knocks spots off the rest of the album

4.0 out of 5 stars ... by this time but we still get the last great flowering of Mike Routledge on the old side 1 ..., 2 July 2014
This review is from: Seven (Audio CD)
Predominantly Karl Jenkins band by this time but we still get the last great flowering of Mike Routledge on the old side 1

Personally I'm a late era Softs fan even though that goes against the tide of popular perception.

So for me this is good stuff, more concise and melodic than they had previously been and pointing the way forward to Bundles and Softs which I also think are good albums
