5.0 out of 5 stars The Dark Night, 17 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Crazy Clown Time (Audio CD)
Heavy unnerving guitar blues from the auteur of the unusual; this sounds exactly as you would expect/want. Grimy thudding grooves (think "Fire Walk With Me" bar scene) with Lynch's unique distorted vocals delivering dark, dark tales. A lost soundtrack for the mind. Not for the faint-hearted, but essential.

Pleasantly quirky superior pop from Danish songstress. Should be huge, but in the current GaGa (music is secondary) climate, probably won't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid - much like the packaging, 21 Aug. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Solid (and hugely successful) second album from Messrs. Clarke and Bell which is carried along nicely by their trademark melodies even if Flood's production is occasionally a little dull. Oddly, this 2011 re-issue comes housed in an old fashioned brick-like double CD case (the remastering is "okay").

5.0 out of 5 stars Chilly, 19 July 2011
This review is from: Feel It Break (Audio CD)
Icy synths coupled with vocal histrionics over pulsing dark electronics. Austra's debut is a slice of brilliance with its oblique sexual references and obvious cool setting it apart. Essential.

If Phil Spector had produced synth pop in the eighties, it may have sounded like this. Big choruses, plenty of reverb and clever songs. They deserve a wider audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remastered at long last..., 16 Nov. 2005
This review is from: Stella (Audio CD)
Like many CD's produced throughout the 80's, Yello's first clutch of albums suffered with that characteristic 'flat' CD sound, which are frankly quiet compared to todays compact disc releases. So "hooray", for these remastered versions. "Stella" is an easy place to start, as it's possibly their most accessible and is still frankly superb. There are too many classic Yello moments here to mention; well okay, 'Desire', "Vicious Games' & 'Angel No' are timeless. Along with the richer sound, they have also added a B-side and three rather good (old-fashioned-extended) 12" versions finished-off in a nice digipack. A class act indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful piece of kit, 16 Mar. 2005
Like many people, I became tired of waiting for the delayed European launch & plumped for an import Japanese PSP. And Wow. I presume Sony are making a sizable loss on the unit itself; it is quite frankly a thing of beauty. It's shiny ergonomic looks alone will seduce most people. Thankfully, it also comes complete with a lovely interface and plenty of CPU 'grunt' (think mini PS2). Ridge Racers is gorgeous. A nice surprise was the mp4 playback via memory stick; the PSP has plenty of possibilities and I haven't even tried the highly-rated wi-fi multi-player yet (I did connect up-to WiFi internet connection, no problem). And finally, the battery life is fine too. I don't get as excited about these things as I used to (that's age for you), but the PSP has been a revelation.

It's another good solid Human League hits album (with a slightly improved track listing; hooray for the inclusion of "Empire State Human"). I must admit I was looking forward to the second CD of remixes, but bar a couple of exceptions, it had me crawling back to the originals with my tail between my legs.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Way to Shrill, 14 Oct. 2003

Look beyond the painfully dodgy cover and you'll find a pretty good (and sizeable) live album here. It's going to appeal more to fans than casuals, but it's worth a listen. Marc Almond is in great voice, Dave Ball keeps the music pulsating nicely while the crowd sound in good spirits. Most of the tracks compare favourably with their studio cousins, but special mention has to go to "Martin", "Insecure Me", "Heat", "The Art Of Falling Apart" and "Mr Self Destruct" as they blew my socks off (again).
