5.0 out of 5 stars Two Hermes for one., 1 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Mr McCart has again produced a very interesting history of these two warships. The often forgotten earlier aircraft carrier is well covered in this volume. In addition some images not seen before have been used.
Coverage of the Falkland War Hermes is extensive and clear. All the relevant historical points are covered and again many of the images are unseen previously.
I have collected several of Mr McCarts volumes and have never been disappointed in them. The series by Maritime Books is very welcome in it's coverage of Royal Navy Warships.

Though HMS Belfast survives, it was a sub-group of this class along with HMS Edinburgh and had of a different appearance to the rest of the group. I saw both HMS Sheffield and HMS Birmingham before they were scrapped.and found the testual information about them very enlightening. This book is heavily illustrated with many images not seen before. The pictures could be very useful to model makers as is some of the comments about the various camouflage schemes during the Second World War.
The initial chapter about the pre-war development of this call is most interesting and those interested would be well advised to purchase Mr McCart's book.

This review is from: Loch Class Frigates (Hardcover)
A well researched book covering a class of warships not often mentioned. Though they served mostly in the Far East, I am old enough to have seen one in the Firth of Forth. This class covered a gap in the Royal Navy's world coverage in the 1950's. They were compact ships , but very uncomfortable to serve in being cramped and small. They survived in service as shown by this book until the late 1960's and as the many illustrations show endured a certain amount of modifications.
All in all a worth while addition to this series of publications.

C Class Destroyers
C Class Destroyers

Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Royal Navy post-war destroyers., 27 Dec. 2016

This review is from: C Class Destroyers (Hardcover)
This series of books are providing readers with a serious history of these vessels. The C class destroyers are an important stage in the development of this type of ship. Coming between the emergency wartime and the postwar Daring class giants they provided the Royal Navy during the 1940's and 1950's with warship cover all over the World. David Hobbs has provided individual ship entries for the all of the Ca, Co etc series, some not as detailed as others, but still enough to place them in context. Well worth the high price adding to my already expanding collection of these books.

No problems with the Blue Ray player with this production. The 'tea run' is probably the best railway film on the market. Even though I have never been anywhere near this line, the atmosphere presented makes it on of the very best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent programme, technical problem., 16 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whilst this DVD is the usual high standard for an Ivo Peters film, I sadly found one important fault. The copy I received would not or will not play on my Blue Ray machine. It played very happily on the other two DVD players I possess so it made it difficult to send back. The programme itself is superb, I already had a copy on Video, but the quality is much better in this medium.

Good to replace my battered original copy. Images are clear and the format retained. It is, of course much more expensive than the original, but I'm afraid that is to be expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars A shedbook above all, 10 April 2016

Along with his other volume this is a major opus of work. If I have any criticism they would be it is an upgrade not long after the first publication. The books are not cheap so it needs much thought before publishing. Though I realise that the information enclosed is important, I feel a few more images might have been helpful.

This product is good and was recommended by my Dentist. It holds it's charge well, at least 6 days and the inclusion of the different brush heads makes it an attractive, if more expensive buy. My only problem has been getting used to the electric tooth brush after a lifetime of hand brushing. My wife has a cheaper make and finds it needs charging every four days, so paying more is worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to dance band days, 10 April 2016

Loved this, the tracks covered would appear to be some of his earlier work. All the dance standards are found in this volume so evokes an era of late 1940s and 1950s.
