3.0 out of 5 stars a flawed masterpiece, 3 Dec. 2009
I read this book from a 'part-time' fottball follower point of view. Whilst there is much in this book that is very interesting and gives an insight into how single minded pursuit of your goal can make you successful, but at what cost. There is an air of deep sadness that comes across in Clough's language. In the end you dont know whether to feel annoyed at the self-opinionated views or sympathy for the baggage of regrets and missed opportunities.
One particular area stands out where the 'alcohol driven downfall of Gazza' is pointed out by Clough. Where he seems to ignore that the same substance probably had a massively detrimental impact on the true fulfillment of his potential...
Overall, worth a read and I ended feeling a great deal of empathy for the man and the unfortunate way he faded away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, easy to read, 31 July 2000
I have read a few 'introduction to buddhism' books recently, but none of them come across as well as John Snellings' handbook.
The writing style is very informal and the text does not get dragged down into excessive academic style script. The book puts across information in a manner that is very easy to absorb.
If you an interest in what buddhism is all about then i could not recommend this book highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great incentive for armchair travellers, 22 Jun. 2000
This book is living proof that you dont have to be Ranulph-Fienes to experience a great travel adventure. Tim's observations were hilarious. For anyone who suffers with seasickness this book is for you.
