5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific book had me laughing out loud and then thinking about the great charity work the author has done., 31 Oct. 2014

This is a book in two parts. The first is hilariously funny - equal or better than Sir Roger's hero David Niven in the Moon's a Balloon. The second part is rather more (not Moore) serious and largely concerns the very good work he has done for UNICEF. I don't know whether one of these two halves was ghost written but the change in style is unmistakable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money on this one, Archer may have written some good books but this is not one of them., 24 Oct. 2014

This book is unreadable due to the crass mistakes Lord Archer makes in describing US politics. The plot is weak and completely without credibility and reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars I cannot recommend this more highly to readers of both sexes, brought tears to my eyes but has a happy(ish) ending., 23 Oct. 2014

Wow! This woman is a heroine. I won't spoil the story by telling you what happened but this is a beautifully written book by a lady of outstanding courage and I certainly could not have gone through what she went through.

5.0 out of 5 stars So, funny, so worthwhile. II cannot think of anyone who would not enjoy, 23 Oct. 2014

I rarely laugh at films as much as this, particularly the very first Pink Panther which has a star cast that is nearly unbelievable, how Blake Edwards got them all together is extraordinary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun to dip into for the historical writing, even if you won't be dipping into the actual dishes described., 21 Oct. 2014

What not to like about Mrs Beeton? A genuine introduction to late 19C middle class life. How to address a Duke; how to cope with your servants; how to buy a property; even a few recipes that you may care to try: January 1887 - dinner for 18 persons - 22 dishes in four courses so you could knock that up in no time with only a cook and a couple of kitchen maids.

However, this is a wonderful piece of history and it reads very well.

3.0 out of 5 stars So sorry to say that it is not as good as it was cracked up to be., 21 Oct. 2014
This is not the most gripping suspense thriller you will ever read and unless you live in the South of the USA it will not make a great deal of sense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly really good, very readable, did enjoy it but have some reservations on the presentation of the characters., 21 Oct. 2014

This is a very good thriller. The settings of the murders and the background of the workings of the Police system seem to be known to the author. The plot is plausible in some form but not likely. I presume his information about the theft of military weapons is backed up by some fact, these weapons are available over the internet in the USA, and he may be right on his psychology of ex-servicemen who have returned from a war zone but this is the part that does not really ring true to me. People with severely damaged psyches due to combat stress can run amok as easily as those who have been brainwashed in a religious cause, certainly those who know how to handle a firearm are more dangerous than those that don't; but many ordinary people handle firearms and do not have to go around slaughtering people. So it is only the extraordinary person that commits these crimes and that is not really brought out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't think of anyone who would dislike this book, it is remarkably light reading and exciting but not emotional., 17 Oct. 2014

I have always found this author a little difficult in the past but this was such a good book that I shall try some more of his works. Love story, espionage, recently set so not so cold war boring, dramatic ending, rather underplayed.
