A Canadian production with quite a good storyline. Produced on an almost drama documentary basis with plenty of realistic visual effects. I would compare it with Kajaki although the latter is based on an actual incident, Hyena Road is based on, to quote, 'stories from real soldiers'. Well put together in its editing and certainly worth watching.

Although a 15 certificate the language is quite strong throughout - but then what do we expect from soldiers in a battle?

5.0 out of 5 stars So comfortable I find it hard to stay awake, 17 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ordered 11 April, delivery 19th, actually delivered 15th. Very easy to assemble but mind the instructions are UNDER the chair. It took me no more than ten minutes to put together and not a screw or bolt in sight. Well finished and so comfortable I'm finding it hard to stay awake. Absolutely fabulous value for money.

If you want to be more open about yourself then this book can be a great help. It was recommended to me by a friend and I am so pleased that he did. In some sections it goes a bit too deep into the use of the American 'counselling' which I found to be a bit OTT. Fortunately the UK is sufficiently open and there are plenty of ways to get guidance without paying for that service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant. I have not seen the show, 28 Mar. 2016

A Real Eye Opener. Yes, I think a lot of us realise that a lot of work goes into a show but this really does open your eyes. Absolutely brilliant. I have not seen the show, regrettably, but am hopeful that Cameron Macintosh takes this production on a full UK tour in the not too distant future.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, 22 Dec. 2015

What a fabulous story, told with total honesty. It has opened my eyes to both sides of the story and helped me to realise who I am and should have been. Why do we hide behind convention? A must read for any parent faced with the same situation and, most certainly, for an offspring suffering with facing up to their own sexuality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly amazing and not a sign of Hollywood licence., 23 Jun. 2015

Although in my late 70's I have been lucky enough not to have been engaged in a real war. Just missed Korea, Cyprus and Kenya. However, this film has to be as near the truth as I have ever seen. None of this American 'dramatisation' and 'base on a true story'. This is gritty, nail biting and frighteningly realistic. A portrayal of a situation in all its naked heroism and love for their buddies. If you want to see what our lads have been through in Afghanistan then this is a must see. It will really make you admire the amazing qualities of our armed forces and, hopefully, make those who have doubts about what these lads went through see them in a proper light.

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor translation causes three star rating, 4 May 2015

This review is from: The First and the Last (Paperback)
The story in itself is very interesting, it's good to read the war story from the other side, but the translation is abysmal. It is almost as though it is a literal translation by someone not fully qualified in the German language. This is a real shame because it makes the book quite difficult to read and detracts from the story being told. The type setting is even worse and in some sections it is not possible to understand the meaning of sentences until the second or third reading. Words are hyphenated when not needed, Fuhrer is written as Fiihrer, and as ard, and so on. I feel the typesetter
must have been a trainee on their first day release from Primary school.

It is such a shame because the story written in good grammatical English would have been much more interesting. If you are interested in WW2 this is a fascinating tale of one mans' frustrations caused by inept leaders who had no understanding of listening to how things worked on the 'shop floor' . Certainly worth a read.

Well written, superbly acted and followed my knowledge of the man closely. Yes there are one or two incidents of theatrical licence but this has to be accepted in that five+ years are condensed into two hours. Well worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb live feel to this recording, 11 Nov. 2014

A brilliant recording with a live feel to it by having the audience reaction and applause. It is rather a shame that there is an audible click between the tracks that I put down to a compilation fault. It still is a brilliant recording and most certainly makes me want to see the show.
