5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY FIRST RATE, 25 April 2013
If you collect or are considering collecting WW2 German Heer or luftwaffe flak badges then this is a must have,Its an expensive book but could save you hundreds of pounds in the long run by enabling to spot fakes. The deatil and the clour photographs are superb. World of warefare books currently have this for £75.00 ( as at 25th April 2013 ).

A Collector's Guide to the Kriegsmarine (Collectors guide to)
A Collector's Guide to the Kriegsmarine (Collectors guide to)
by Christopher Ailsby
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars FAIRLY USEFUL, 25 Mar. 2013

A handy sized book with a broad overveiw of kriegsmarine awards and badges. Has one or two howlers in it , for example on a photograph of a destroyer badge with a long top pin the author assumes this is because it wasn't clipped in the factory whereas the reality is that this is a picture of a very rare variant produced by Steinhauer and Luck who were the only manufacturers to feature the long pin. Now if that's the sort of detail and accuracy you are looking for I suggest you buy the much bigger, heavier and more expensive 'War badges of the kreigsmarine' by Gordon Williamson rather than this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT TITLE FROM PEN AND SWORD, 8 Mar. 2013
Its a book that follows a common theme about evasion, capture and eventually escape. Its very well written with moments of humour and despair, I have nothing but admiration for the author and highly reccomend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars ENJOYABLE READ, 8 Mar. 2013
Wow ! I've looked at some of the reveiws and debates about this book and I cant beleive how much passion it has created.I think a lot of people have missed the point- this is a personal account of one mans war not a reference book about auschwitz. I think the publishers probably chose a title with the word 'auschwitz' just to boost sales but it dosnt detract from the fact that this is a well written account about the authors wartime and post war experiences. I fully accept that he has 'bulled up ' some of his army career but I dont deny that he served on the front line and witnessed terrible sights both in action and in captivity - because of that I think he has earned the right to bit a bit of clourful vanity in parts. Some of his actions are backed up by incontravertible evidence and independent research which makes the story ultimately uplifting. As for those who feel themselves so superior that they have a duty to write a reveiw without even bothering to read the book all I can say is 'get a life'. Please read this book.

This review is from: Saboteur (Paperback)
A very well written book which covers the authors life growing up in Denmark right through to the German occupation and beyond. You dont need an interest in WW2 to enjoy this book , its a great true story that stands on its own merits. I originally spotted this for sale in the occupation museum in Copenhagen but as books are very expensive in Denmark I waited until I got home and bought it off Amazon for half the price - worth the wait !!

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A SHAME, 9 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Anna Karenina [DVD] (DVD)
Tolstoy would turn in his grave to see his great book turned into something quite bizarre. I bought this expecting a normal costume drama , I realise now that I should have read reviews before I purchased to give me clue as to what a strange adaptation this is. Mostly filmed like a stage play in an empty theatre which I found distracting from the actual story. I guess this is what people call 'art' in much the same way as Tracey Emins untidy bedroom was called 'art' - personally I prefer to call it drivel. If you prefer a normal film and like to be entertained by a proper drama I would suggest that you buy any adaptation of Anna Karenina other than this one.

Gives a detailed insight into an individuals service based on interveiws with the author. The narrative is backed up with some great photographs. Although the basis for the narrative is interesting the author has managed to write it in a style that can be tedious at times but overall worth sticking with. If you dont like the style of writing you can always look at the pictures !!

The narrative in this book is very interesting but the best thing about it is the HUGE number of photographs of Kubelwagens in use. If you search for this book you may find an earlier edition which costs a lot more - buy the cheaper one because ITS THE SAME BOOK !!

Tankograd 1202 Kübelwagen on all Frontlines
Tankograd 1202 Kübelwagen on all Frontlines
by Jochen Vollert
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY DETAILED, 30 Jan. 2013
This book gives great detail as to the slight variations which took place in Kubelwagen production over the years narrowed down to chassis numbers. As a kubelwagen owner I found the information helpful and, of course , I loved the many, many wartime photographs of kubelwagens printed throughout the book. Modelmakers as well as vehicle enthusiasts will find this book very informative. The only slight criticism I would make is that there are one or two statements made by the author only to be contradicted by his own photographic evidence in other parts of the book. Additinally vehicle specifications are presented as being very black and white and dosn't really cover the fact that the Germans had facilities for recovering and rebuilding damaged vehicles thus leading to some anomlies. As I said , very minor points , the book is excellent and gets 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT OVERVIEW, 30 Jan. 2013
I normally read books about specific campaigns or personal accounts so it was different to read a book which chronicals the whole of WW2. Its a well balanced account with just the right amount of detail to keep the reader interested and informed. Highly recommended.
