Scotch 50 mm x 66 m Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Dispenser - Low Noise Brown
Scotch 50 mm x 66 m Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Dispenser - Low Noise Brown
Price: £22.86

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty, good dispenser, good tape, 25 Aug. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Packing tape is very handy to have around the house. I use it to wrap things up to secure in storage, tape together items to transport to the tip, seal open boxes to stop dust going in and for my daughter's school projects. This comes with a tape dispenser and two rolls of 30m brown packing tape so there should be enough tape to last a while.

At work we use at least 1 roll per day, sometimes 2, and have had tape from many different suppliers, ranging from the economy to the premium tapes. There is a huge difference in tape, so don’t assume that all tape is similar. Sometimes it is worth paying that bit extra for a better tape that actually adheres to the surface and comes off the roll nice and easy without tearing or ripping.

The tape supplied with this is a low noise and strong adhesive. When the tape is pulled, there is very little noise, not the ripping sound that you get with cheaper tapes. The adhesive on the tape is very good. It sticks first time to every type of cardboard and paper that I used, and did not peel off. This is a big improvement on the cheaper tape that we currently use. Replacement packs of 6 can be purchased on Amazon (Scotch KT000032724 Packaging Tape, 50 mm x 66 m - Clear, 6 Rolls).

The actual machine is easy to use. The tape loads well and cuts cleanly. The blade is very sharp, so be careful handling it. I do prefer this type to the hidden cutter type. Holding the gun is easy and comfortable. In fact, although it is a nice machine to use, it is really no different from the other guns I have used. However, as this is designated heavy use, it should last a lot longer.

For those that have never used a packing tape gun before:
Loading: Pull a little tape out to start it going and push the tape onto the 3 spoked wheel so that it pulls anti-clockwise and down. Pull and hold the metal bar at the top of the grip. Pull the tape so that it goes between the metal bar and the roller. Release the metal bar (this helps it stay in position). Pull the tape and pull it against the cutter to cut it.
Using: If the tape has good glue, touch the tape against the item you are taping and pull on the tape. I personally pull and hold the tape on the box. Pull the tape and when finished, angle the dispenser until the cutter cuts the tape. The red plastic bit that sticks up should push the cut tape against the item that is being taped.

If you are using a weaker adhesive tape, then where the tape fits on, there is a red turn dial. Turn it clockwise to increase tension against the tape, and anti-clockwise to release tension. So if a tape comes off the roll too easily, tighten the tension. If you are having trouble pulling the tape, release the tension.

Overall a good quality product. It is more expensive than some tape guns, but will last a while. We have purchase cheap guns at work and they do not last. You end up buying them more often to replace broken ones making it a false economy. I will be replacing ours with this model when necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, looks nice, great buy, 23 Aug. 2016

I used a clear sealant around the shower unit to stop leaks, but obviously it was the wrong type as after just a few years, there is mold growing on it and inside. It took ages to remove the old silicone. This was nice and easy to apply (if you have a good applicator gun and apply steady pressure), and when smoothed off just finished the appearance and look. My shower looks like new again. I like the look, I like the silence of not being nagged to get rid of the mold, I like the peace.

I cant comment on how many years it will be before any bacterial growth gets on it, but will update the review when it does,

3.0 out of 5 stars repetitive at times but relaxing. space combat sucks., 23 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: No Man's Sky (PS4) (Video Game)
I was looking forward to this game as it reminded me of Elite and Whale's Voyage, 2 games I really enjoyed playing years ago.

You start off stranded on a random planet. If you pick the short straw like me, it is a radiation filled hot planet where you quickly lose life support. You have a suit, a ship and a multi purpose tool which you can see by pressing the touch pad. Each item has limited slots to hold upgrades and items (suit and ship). To progress you need to mine the resources of the planet and use these to repair or manufacture items that you need. The suit you have will only have a handful of slots free, and so will the ship. The suit will hold 250 units of minerals in each slot and the ship 500. To start with it is a balancing game of what to mine in what order to repair and charge your ship and life support. Travelling on foot is slow, you have a jetpack to get to higher places, but things progress slowly. If the planet is hostile, this will start taking protection from your suit and life support. You need to mine resources to repair them or find shelter and wait until storms pass or recharge your life support. If you mine too heavily, you will get attacked by sentinels (robots that fly and scan the landscape), you can run and hide or destroy them, but each time bigger and stronger ones appear. Think of it like GTA 5 and the police stars - you can hide and they go away after a certain time.

Once you leave the planet you enter space. Here you can go to other planets in the solar system, space stations or even warp into another galaxy altogether. You have 3 speeds, the R2 is thrust, will be OK for small travel on planets - no good for space flight. Speed boost - hold the circle button down. This is fast for planet travel or the only option for slow space travel. There is a pulse (space only) by holding L1 and L2 down for 5 seconds, this is very quick and the only way to travel in space. It does go in a straight line, so make sure you are pointing where you want to go first. There is also the Galaxy map (down button) whereby you can travel to another galaxy if you have the right engine and fuel installed.

On space stations and in certain buildings on the planet, you will encounter life forms. They all talk their own language, making it difficult to give the correct response to their questions. There are alien structures and devices scattered round planets that will give you a new word, so you start to slowly understand what is being said. You can also sometimes ask for help with a new word from the aliens in buildings. Eventually you can guess correctly what is being said and give correct responses, and be rewarded with technology blueprints or minerals.

You will need units to buy or upgrade items, so you will need to start selling mined, manufactured or purchased items. These can be sold to traders and through terminals in space stations and trading posts. I am currently on ship 5 with 21 slots, my suit has 25 slots and mining tool 12 slots with many upgrades to mine quicker.

Sometimes in space, you will be attacked by pirates looking to steal your valuable cargo, so you will have to fight them off - I tried flying away but you can’t. Slow down so you can turn quickly and good luck. It seems to be more pot luck than anything if you hit a ship. I have died several times. If there are more than 3 ships, you will die. However, where you die there will be a marker with GRAVE, and if you fly through it or go to it if on a planet, all your inventory is returned to you.

So far I have jumped several galaxies, explored all the planets in each solar system and I am still playing.

Yes, the game does start to get repetitive. The same type of planets, the same type of minerals, the same life forms, the same species of aliens, similar questions. The same thing to do over and over again.

The graphics are good, as you enter a planet, the landscape fizzles in front of you due to the way the game draws the items. It is strange at times, I am flying over a hill and there is a vertical line in front, which as I get closer magically appears into a floating boulder.

A good tip is to install an analyser in your multi purpose tool and scan everything by holding L2 down. Every new animal, plant or boulder you scan is a rewarded with credits. Pressing the options button shows all the items you have found. Holding the square over the item uploads it to the servers, holding triangle allows you to name the item and upload it. Keep doing this to get money.

I have had a few game crashes whereby the game stopped working and had to restart it. So far 7, so make sure that on a planet each location has a small tower, operate it to save the location and game, so if you die or the game crashes, you start there.

So far after many hours, I am still playing. I enjoy the trading trying to sell as high as possible (there is a small yellow star next to the price if these are a lot higher than normal). After a short while can get over 1,000,000 credits before proceeding again on my journey.

It is a lonely place, you will be extremely lucky to see any other person or any place already discovered - but chances get better the closer to the centre of the galaxy. Don’t expect destiny style land battles, space combat to be perfect or an action game that has you on the edge of your seat. If this is what you want, don’t get this game - you will be extremely disappointed. There are multiple design ships in the game, each has different space for cargo, they look different, but all fly exactly the same. A large cargo ship is just as nimble as a small fighter type ship.

This is a slow game that you may find rewarding through perseverance. Think of it as minecraft mining for materials, building, trading and exploring.

I like the game, but do question on the long term appeal.

Breville VDF122 Halo+ Duraceramic Health Fryer, 1.2 kg
Breville VDF122 Halo+ Duraceramic Health Fryer, 1.2 kg
Price: £162.60

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, easy to clean, great food but large, 23 Aug. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have always wanted to get a health fryer, but never did as I could never accept that a small amount of oil could actually cook the food correctly.

This is a big machine, in fact the biggest problem you may have is finding the space for it. If like me you have a small kitchen, this takes up too much space to keep it out, and it takes so much space up when stored. If you can overcome this, then it is a great machine.

Although you can cook a variety of foods in this machine and you get a recipe book to prove the point, most will use it to cook chips, so that is the first thing I tried. Normally I use oven chips, which can be cooked in this machine, but instead opted for proper chips. I cut and chipped the potatoes until I had enough for a meal for the family. After washing the starch out with running water, you need to pat dry them. This I did by placing them between kitchen towel and dabbing them - you could also use a clean tea towel. When done, I weighed them as this will affect cooking time. The wight was in between the ones printed in the instructions, so went between the settings and opted for 23 minutes. Place the chips in the inner metal basket and spread them round, then I drizzled ĺ spoon of vegetable oil over them, closed the lid, switched on the machine and used the + button to get to 23 then pressed the dual heat button to start. For chips you need to pull out the knob on the right side and tilt the machine forward to resemble a large crash helmet. The machine heats up quickly and rotates the chips. There is not much steam coming out, no condensation, hardly any smell. The machine does get extremely hot at the top as it cooks, so beware of this. After 23 minutes, it beeps to indicate cooking has finished. Pull the knob on the right out and tilt it back to normal. The big button on the front opens the lid. You have an easy to use handle. Place it over the inner pan and push the lever forward, this clamps it so you can lift the pan out and server on the plates directly. Verdict, very nice chips, far better than oven chips, lovely texture, no hard bits, extremely tasty, not fatty. The best I have had in ages. In fact the oven chips have been binned and we now only eat our own cooked with this machine now.

I also tried a beef stroganoff by using frying steak cut into thin slices and cooking in the tilted position for 10 minutes, then adding 2 finely diced onions, sliced mushrooms and garlic, mixed then cooked for a further 10 minutes. I then moved it to the upright position and added a tablespoon of flour and 150 ml of beef stock (1 OXO cube in 150ml boiling water), stirred and cooked for another 10 minutes. I did not add sauce or mustard as I am the only one that likes these and it was a family meal. After cooking, I stirred in 110 ml of soured cream and served it with mashed potato. Very tasty and will be making it again.

Overall, easy to operate, very healthy, and food so far has come out great. The only drawback is the large size of the appliance, meaning you will need a large kitchen to keep it out or good cupboard space to store it. It resembles a large crash helmet but cooks great food.

Meguiar's Perfect Clarity G8216EU Glass Cleaner 473 ml
Meguiar's Perfect Clarity G8216EU Glass Cleaner 473 ml
Price: £9.49

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as stated, nice smell, 10 Aug. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I generally use Autoglym 500ml Fast Glass to clear all my car windows and glass around the home. This product is in the same price band (a touch more expensive) and therefore can be compared directly against it.

You get 473ml cleaner in a spray bottle. It is easy to apply, a few sprays on the window or more if heavily soiled, and wipe with a cloth, then buff with a clean dry cloth. Very easy to apply, not too much rubbing, comes off easily and leaves a streak free window. Glass is really clear.

The smell is fantastic, not like Autoglym, I much prefer this smell. Would I buy this over Fast Glass? If the price was the same yes. At the moment Fast Glass is less money and has more in, you get similar results but without the pleasant aroma.

I like this product.

Joseph Joseph Slice&Sharpen Knives with 6-Inch Chef's Knife and 3.5-Inch Paring Knife, lack/Red
Joseph Joseph Slice&Sharpen Knives with 6-Inch Chef's Knife and 3.5-Inch Paring Knife, lack/Red
Price: £35.00

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic pair of knives - sharp and look good, 4 Aug. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These are a pair of the most used knives, a paring knife and a chef’s knife in a blister pack - which was difficult to open. The Chef's knife is smaller than my usual one, so was a little apprehensive in how good it would be.

Each knife has its own sheath which fits snuggly and securely, and on each one has a built in sharpener at the end of the sheath. The idea being that you can sharpen the blade before use each time. In reality, I would only ever sharpen if it went blunt, rather than each time to prolong the life of the blade.

Cutting is very easy, they seem to glide through whatever I tried:- bread, fruit, meat, vegetables, fish etc. Not once did the blade bend. As they are light, you would expect that you need a huge amount of pressure to ensure a good cut - but no, they cut with very little effort.

I also like the black blade and handle, that slide into the protective sheath snuggly and positively.

I have had many sets of knives over the years and have purchased dearer ones as a separate purchase, but these are the best ones I now own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but effective. Well pleased., 3 Aug. 2016

I have moved away from the tinned pineapple to fresh, it just tastes so much better and has more juice. The only problem was cutting it up:- chopping off the top and bottom, trimming the sides, slicing the body, cutting out the harder core, chinking them - all a time consuming job. This makes light work and it actually does the job.

I decided to go for the set of 3 to give different size options. Assembly is easy, if you want chunks, slide the green cutting device over the cutting shaft and attach the handle. Place the cutting head on the pineapple and start to turn with a gently pressure on the device. As it cuts down inside, the pineapple is collecting on the cutting stem. When you have reached the bottom, pull up the handle to remove the cut pineapple. You will need to wiggle it slightly and also twist up to start the lift, but then it slides out OK. What is left is the core sticking up in the middle and the hollow inside to the edge. Place it on a plate or cutting board and press the cutter all the way down to cut into chunks. For rings, remove the handle and slide them off.

It is so simple but so very effective. Make sure that you do not go all the way down to the bottom, as you can fill the hollowed pineapple with a drink for the exotic presentation. A great time saving device. Well worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars small, lightweigh, powerful - not a replacement for larger machines, 3 Aug. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The unit is bagless and has washable filters, so running costs are greatly reduced, especially as this is also A rated for energy consumption. For such a small machine, it packs a lot of suction power, in fact so much so that we had to open the air valve on the top of the hose fully to help reduce suction. There is a built in handle on the machine, making it easy to pick up and move - especially since it is so lightweight. There are big buttons for power and cord retract, both easy to operate.

When using on a hard floor or short pile rug, the power was excellent, it even started to lift the carpet. A quick release of the air vent on top of the handle soon helped to reduce the power.

The drawbacks I found:-
On long piled carpet, pushing the unit over the carpet was fine, pulling it back caused the head to jump like a kangaroo, so was only effective one way.
The long handle seemed flimsy, as you operated the unit it bent - worrying about how long they would last.
The hose is fairly rigid.
The collection unit is small.
There is no storage place for the one and only crevice tool supplied.

Overall, a good machine. It will not replace a main unit. This is a small, compact, lightweight, powerful cleaner that is easy to maneuver. The lead is an OK length best suited for a small flat, cleaning the stairs, caravan or car.
