Naturally the book is better but this movie backed up by some excellent actors and settings is worth an evening of our time.

The union between the lens holder and the ear tangs is too weak. One broke off almost immediately. I tried fixing it with epoxy but to no avail.

It might be extra large in some countries but few in the West, I believe. The cut is extremely tight and un-workmanlike. I'm very disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't mention Vietnam, of course., 26 Oct. 2014
A tired, thread-bare scenario selling American gun-culture and "heroism" in the name of the "exceptional nation". Its like watching any soap with a few dirt smears on the "actors" cheeks. Appallingly shallow. The people who gave it five stars should have their children taken into care.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hollywood as an instrument of American contemporary history., 9 Oct. 2014
Not only does this movie go some way to normalising torture in the name of the righteous, special and exceptional country but, worse than this, its very dull. You can sense that the director begins to become aware of this and throws in some petrochemical explosions occasionally to spark things up a bit. The acting is standard American-school and the characters are off-the-shelf and grossly overstated. The tension is maintained by people shouting at each other.
I'm glad I rented it, for one dollar, else I'd be really miffed. I only did so because I wanted to see it before joining the debate on it.
In real life Obama has gone from flat denial that America was torturing anyone to "...sure, we tortured some folks". I'm reminded of the Monty Python Holy Grail scene were the father of the bride entreats the guests to "not worry about who killed who...lets get on with the wedding"

These are not the best on the market, I daresay, but for the money an odd-jobber has all he needs. I was cutting a very large rock to fit a space when it cracked and rolled unpredictably, but predictably enough, it toppled on my foot. Safe. They paid for themselves. They fit well but I removed the paper-thin liner and replaced it with a foam liner.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is what the "Lincoln" movie should have been like., 10 Feb. 2014

Far deeper than "Lincoln" and over an extended period of time this movie has substance and more than historical myth behind it. I enjoyed it and was edified.

If you're an ordinary Joe but one with a taste for creative photography this is all you'll ever need. I bought it while it was half price from Amazon along with a second lens for portraits. If you can get the same deal then go for it. Its a Nikon, you can't go wrong.

1.0 out of 5 stars A few pearls in the mud, 10 Feb. 2014
This review is from: Lincoln [DVD] (DVD)
I looked forward to this movie and was immensely disappointed. Redeemed a little by some stupendous acting it nevertheless made me squirm. Hollywood cannot resist gilding the lily with a rose tinted syrupy coating of sentimentalism and myth. This is America attempting to hold onto itself against the tidal wave of repugnance for it's perpetual imperialist wars and its arrogant disdain for anyone not American. This is the plutocracy politically re-educating Americans about its "greatness". The eloquent and refined speeches from house servants and foot soldiers with their far off eyes made me nauseated.
The American dream has become a myth as epitomised by this production. Lincoln did not give a fig for the negroes at the beginning of the war, he believed that they should be equal before the law but would never be equal intellectually, he never attempted to moderate the destruction wrought by the Union Army on its march south and he moderated his murder of the American Indian only because he didn't want provoke Europe into joining in the war.
" Authorities in Minnesota asked President Lincoln to order the immediate execution of all 303 Indian males found guilty. Lincoln was concerned with how this would play with the Europeans, whom he was afraid were about to enter the war on the side of the South. He offered the following compromise to the politicians of Minnesota: They would pare the list of those to be hung down to 39. In return, Lincoln promised to kill or remove every Indian from the state and provide Minnesota with 2 million dollars in federal funds. Remember, he only owed the Sioux 1.4 million for the land.
So, on December 26, 1862, the Great Emancipator ordered the largest mass execution in American History, where the guilt of those to be executed was entirely in doubt. Regardless of how Lincoln defenders seek to play this, it was nothing more than murder to obtain the land of the Santee Sioux and to appease his political cronies in Minnesota."
Scott Barta
Most journalists in America are nothing more than Government cheerleaders. Most Hollywood directors too and, new to me, film critics, apparantly.
