2.0 out of 5 stars Scatty and messy, 9 Jan. 2015

After the amazing first book and ridiculously pointless second book I hoped the author might go back to her origins. Safely not. This book has toned down on the history lessons but instead we get a disjointed long drawn out pile of drivel. The romance has become sickeningly cringe worthy, Diana the great seems to do nothing but have glowing wrists, the rest of the pointless characters loiter around (phoebe????) Now I'm still not sure what the plot was, the book seemed to run out of steam, the twins arrival was built up to not much, Benjamin appeared and dominated this book only to be snuffed out in seconds..... very bizzare

3.0 out of 5 stars Little rushed but a tear jerker, 18 Dec. 2014

Seems like it's been written or edited as an intended film, likei never meant to be a book. In parts it's incredibly juvenile but then hits you with a swarm of complex language. I would have liked to see the relationship develop a bit more as it felt none existent and then all consuming in about a chapter. The obvious part was done beautifully and jerked tears! But againi rushed from there to the end, it was like the author had an impatient streak. Can't deny the saddening beauty of this book and at a slightly slower more intricate pace it would be 4 stars, without the horrendous name Augustus and the almost patronizing authors note it would be 5

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning read., 27 July 2014

The follow up to pure, well worth the wait.

What's right with it-

The author has a way of portraying fine details so you can really imagine the setting.
The main characters are all there and just as lovable
The story flows on very well from the first book

What's wrong.

I think it should have been broken down into 3 books, the end felt far too rushed

There is a tendency to go off on one, some parts leave more questions than answers and have little relevance

Otherwise it's a fantastic read and very creative

1.0 out of 5 stars I thought 100 names was bad but this is beyond pathetic, 18 Jan. 2014

I've read all of her books usually in days, the last 2 have been terrible! This book is so far fetched and predictable its almost painful. None of the characters are likable and its full of pointless characters, Amelia, Barry, the guy Amelia meets, Amelia mum, Christine's dad and sisters. They add nothing to the flimsy story. As for the suicides! Seriously??? Why would Simon try to shoot himself and then cling on to life just to hear the stranger who failed to talk him out of it has fallen in love. The 16 yr old suicidal teen, the preaching from the irritating Christine....all too much. Won't bother with this author now she has lost it. Go back to your roots c.a! Slow it down and stop throwing 50 ideas at one book. And get me a refund

Loved the book not quite as much as the first but it's still creative and great to get lost inside the imaginative characters
