5.0 out of 5 stars Go wireless with ease, 15 Nov. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had been thinking of going wireless for a long time, having recently acquired a laptop, realised it was pretty useless attached to a cable. But it all seemed very complicated, and to be honest I did not have a clue. So I decided to take a chance and order the TP LINK, after all it was not very expensive and had many good reviews from Amazon customers. The unit arrived well packed and very quickly, although it did sit unopened for a couple of days before I could pluck up courage to do the installation. The quick start chart made it easy to connect the cables, the first problem came with configuring the connection, the little 3" cd would not sit in the side loading DVD unit on the pc,(Perhaps I should have used the laptop instead) however it was not needed, all I had to do was type in the pin number on the base of the TP, within moments I was up and running, and can hardly believe how easy it was, even for an old duffer like me. Really pleased and highly recommended.

Purchased as a gift, but they are so lovely I decided to keep them for myself! Good weight and size, retro design and very nice quality. Too good just to use as egg cups.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not suitable for personal players, 12 Nov. 2014

I paid £16 on Amazon as a deal of the week, a fair price, I don’t think they are worth a lot more.
While these are ok for using in the home plunged into your HiFi, although you don’t get a mini jack adapter. You can then listen to your music whilst dancing round the room! For using with personal music players they are useless, as other reviewers have said, do you need a 10 foot cable? True you get a cable tidy, but this is big and bulky, bigger than your music player.
The packaging is welded plastic clamshell type, watch your fingers when trying to open, and take care you don’t damage the headphones.
So my advice, home use great, for portable music look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic CiNeRaMa soundtrack re-mastered., 10 Nov. 2014
Search For Paradise, a review!
As always with SEPIA the artwork is fantastic, a great informative booklet, detailing both the film and score. Great photos behind the scenes, including one of Tiomkin in colour conducting the score at Carnegie Hall.
The album opens with Prologue, played by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Elmer Bernstein, originally issued on his FilmMusic collection, and used with kind permission of the Bernstein estate.
The next track is the spoken introduction by Lowell Thomas, setting the scene. Then we have the score many of you will be familiar with as issued on LP, but now greatly improved sound, Although whether it's genuine 'stereo' is debatable. A bonus track is the Exit music, not previously issued. More bonus tracks, 4 ‘pop’ versions of songs by Bob Merrill, finally two orchestral tracks by Hugo Winterhalter.
I have to say I am not a huge fan of Dimitri Tiomkin, but really loved this score, Big, Exotic, and Spectacular.
If you like movie music in the grand manner, buy it

4.0 out of 5 stars Wide screen music, 10 Feb. 2014
As always with Sepia, very attractive artwork and design, an excellent 16 page booklet, containing some great posters and photos including that of the scoring stage at Oyster Bay. Fascinating background information on the discovery of the session tapes and their restoration.
27 tracks from the film sessions, followed by 15 from the album release.
The sound quality is quite good, mono, -slight stereo enhancement- very clear, no distortion or drop outs. At times there is a strange balance in the recorded sound, with some sections of the orchestra really ‘in your face’, while others seem miles away. Originally recorded in 7 track stereo, I have a feeling that some of the stems were missing when the recordings were transferred to tape years ago.
We are quite used to studio chat and slate calls, on supplementary extras, but in this case Sepia have decided to include these on all 27 tracks, start and finish. Personally I found it a bit annoying, perhaps that’s just me!
Following that is the album programme, good rich powerful sound, showcasing the huge orchestra.
Enjoyable score, low price point. Recommended.

Abbott And Costello - The Abbott And Costello Collection [DVD] [2003]
Abbott And Costello - The Abbott And Costello Collection [DVD] [2003]
Dvd ~ Bud Abbott

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting more than funny, 23 Jan. 2014
Abbott And Costello's humour has not dated well, its repetitious, and Lou can be rather irritating.
The main interest is their co stars, all the Universal monsters are here, Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, Werewolf, and played by the original stars, although at this stage Glenn Strange had taken over from Karloff in the Frankenstein role. They all play it straight, and that's where the problem is, it leaves the two boys to carry all the comedy. It's a shame, they should have given Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr, Boris Karloff some funny lines, that would have been good. Production values are excellent, nice prints, picture and sound. No extras but there are two films per disc, running approx 75mins each.
Guest stars in the other movies include Mack Sennett, Walter Slezak, and Fred Clark. Films date from 1949-1955.
So to sum it up, interesting curios, entertaining but not really funny.

John Barry - The Early Years
John Barry - The Early Years

5.0 out of 5 stars John Barry, the beginning, 28 Sept. 2013
John Barry The Early Years
Just been listening to this excellent CD on Windmill Records. Producer Geoff Leonard is obviously just like us, an enthusiast! The compilation has been put together with much love and care. Great selection of tracks, 36 of them! In excellent sound. Attractive artwork, and informative booklet. What more can you ask for?
Many of the tracks made me smile, not only the corny songs, lets face it `I Vibrate' and I `Want My Bed' were never going to be hits. But the many flashes of the John Barry style that we would get to know and love in future years.
I was wondering if a talented arranger/composer today would have as many opportunities to refine their skill, somehow I doubt it.
Interestingly one track called `Marilyn' (B. White) Larry Page, is a dead ringer for a Jacques Brel song called `Madeleine' anyone have any views on this?
If you only have the slightest interest in the work of John Barry, you must get this CD, fascinating and great fun too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of songs, but what about sound quality, 3 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are so many cheap 'needle drop' vinyl rip cds from out of copy write recordings out there, so I thought here we go again, but it was very cheap, eleven albums for very little money. So I thought give it a go, and if it sounded dreadful at least I would get the satisfaction of writing a scathing review.
However I was amazed, the sound quality is superb, Miss Days voice has such presence and sparkle.
I have a couple of the albums in this set on original Columbia cds, so was able to do an A-B comparison, and dare I say it the Real Gone Music versions have the edge!
Only downside is the lack of information on the songs, no mention of other singers she duets with on some tracks.
No fancy artwork, they have put all the time and effort into the recordings, and that's what really counts.
I feel quite confident in ordering other titles in this series, which I am sure will be of equal quality.
So cast away all doubts, order your copy, satisfaction guaranteed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor show Disney, 10 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
One would think that with the vast amount of talent at their disposal, Disney would produce a stunning `Singalong' album.
But not so, to start with the CD artwork, is very poor, not typical of the Disney product, it looks cheap and tacky.
As it turns out the CD recording is of a similar standard.
Firstly we have 8 songs from Mary Poppins, most seem to have the original orchestral tracks, but somehow thin and distant.
The songs are sung by third rate Karaoke singers, some really cringe worthy.
Why not use the original vocal versions that we all know and love?
Next on the cd the same eight songs without the vocals, yes the orchestral tracks do sound better, but the vocal line has been replaced with a really nasty synth overdub, hideous!
My advice would be give this CD a miss and buy one of the many splendid Disney compilation discs, which can be picked up for pennies on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Readers Digest the best!, 30 Aug. 2012
In praise of Readers Digest.
Readers Digest know a thing or two about boxed sets, they must have invented them, issuing great sets from way back in the days of vinyl LPs.
What makes them so great? They are always put together with imagination, including unusual tracks and not just doing what every other company does, sticking to top 10 hits. Readers Digest dig much deeper.
These are original recording by the original artists, not later re-recordings by one or more aging members of the original groups. Then unlike so many other compilations, these recording are from the original studio tapes, and sound just amazing.
Most of these tracks fall into whats known as `Public Domain', so anyone can transfer worn out old vinyl to CD and make a quick buck. Not so here These recordings are the real deal!
Finally they always come with a huge booklet, well written with loads of background about the songs, artists, and the timeline they come from.
I bet if you buy one of these collections you will want all the others. I know I did.
