4.0 out of 5 stars Accomplished Debut, 11 Oct. 2015
This review is from: The Secret Mother (Paperback)
This is an accomplished debut, from unforgettably powerful opening scene through to satisfyingly ambiguous conclusion. The other reviews cover the plot details but to add I found this a fascinating insight into the Chinese economic "miracle" of products made with cheap labour. Mai-Ling is a brilliant, complex character brought thrillingly through many traumatic events with her humanity intact - very much the stand-out character in the book, although the lives of the twins in Manchester and the trainee doctor in Nangchang are also well portrayed. Some beautful phrases and a good story well told made this an extremely satisfying read.

This is a very thought provoking game, and that makes it very addictive, however it isn't as good as the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I have ever read!, 6 Aug. 2013

Anthony Horowitz always continues to enthral me with his captivating and horrific (in a good way) stories. They're always full of unexpected twists, making you just want to read more and more! I would recommend this book to people aged 10 and above who enjoy reading horror/action/adventure books.

Gangsta Granny is an amazing story filled with humour, excellent illustrations and extremely deep emotion. It is absolutely amazing, and really made me think about how you should cherish every moment with them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Agree with the rip-off comments, 26 Dec. 2012
Agree totally with all who say this should be in the original package even if it means it costs more to buy. This way you don't know the "true" cost until you've bought it and realised it takes so long to re-charge with the charger supplied. Poor.

Bought these for our six year old's birthday and she loves them and has been getting more confident in them each time. Also worth mentioning superb service from Kates Skates when a courier let them down. Recommend anyone considering buying this product or dealing with this company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crate Diggers Delight, 1 Aug. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a sensational compilation and is strongly recommended for anyone with even a passing interest in the music and period. Its been played regularly since I bought it, and still is as fresh as the first time. You know that you're in really good hands with Alan Jones, whose pedigree is second-to-none. Can't believe that there's so many tracks here I've never heard before. Great stuff.

2.0 out of 5 stars The (Dark) End of the Streets, 20 April 2006
It seemed to be too much to believe that Skinner could follow up two of the best albums of the last decade with a third, and so it's proved. How much of his life is in this is impossible to guess, but it's a load less interesting than the "fictional" lives he created in "Original Pirate Material" and "A Grand Don't Come for Free" and, lets face it, there's nothing less interesting than a celebrity going on about how hard it is being a celebrity - ironic or not. Musically, the lo-fi is almost lo to the point of parody and in some parts make (Memento Mori) make for a gruesome listen.

To any newcomers to the Streets, the first two albums are indispensable. I hope this is only the end of the beginning, and not the beginning of the end.
