Doctor Who - The Brain of Morbius [DVD] [1976]
Dvd ~ Tom Baker
Price: £7.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Frankenstein Who, 9 Mar. 2014

Frankenstein meets Dr Who in this moody and gothic classic. Madoc is brilliant as the mad scientist and there are some great moments of Who history to observe including the Sisters of Karn (later seen in the 8th Doctor's mini-sode from 2013) as well as Morbius himself. Classic classic Who

4.0 out of 5 stars Multi-doc fun but could've been better, 9 Mar. 2014

As a Who fan this is a treat with 4 Doctors on screen (albeit with a re-cast 1st Doctor) and a host of old companions and monsters. It's a shame Tom Baker refused to be in it as I'd have loved to see him interact with other Doctors. The story is enjoyable enough and the Death Zone is a creepy and atmospheric setting. However it could have been so much more!

Beautifully orchestrated version of the Lord of the Rings sound track. This actually sounds better than the original. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fitting end to a brilliant series, 9 Mar. 2014

It's a shame Fringe didn't have a full season to finish telling its remarkable story but they do a very good job in this final season regardless.

This review is from: The Poisonwood Bible (Paperback)
This book is beautifully written with clever multiple narrative but it's heartbreaking and frustrating in equal measure. Very easy to put down!

There are some really strong stories in this collection which epitomize Joyce's writing ability. Strong characters, very creepy undertones and themes that stay with you long afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Who at its very best, 17 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Genesis was voted the greatest of all the Classic Who stories and it's easy to see why. It gives us the philosophy of the Daleks, why they are like they are. It introduces Davros, one of the iconic villains of Doctor Who and is arguably his greatest story portrayed brilliantly by Michael Wisher. The story is six episodes long but brilliantly paced and Tom Baker et al are on top form in the nightmarish setting of Skaro. Anyone wishing to get into Classic Who could do worse than start with this story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great characters, creepy undercurren, 17 Feb. 2013

I really enjoyed this. Joyce is great at subtly developing an unsettling undercurrent in his settings. In this story I really warmed to the characters, particularly the protagonist. And it's the strength of Joyce's characters that make his books so appealing.
