5.0 out of 5 stars Good read india to a tee, 23 Jun. 2015

Enjoyed it really captured the essence of India sans the archetypical backpacker stuff. Would be interested to know if there's a more reliable bike available in India capable of making the same trip as yours?

Cheers

Very enjoyable. Perhaps in time this book may be appreciated for the insight it provides into an ancient culture that is becoming rapidly eroded by the onset of modernity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very readable, 20 Jan. 2014

Having visited many of the locations in the book I can relate to the authors narrative, the people he so aptly describes are in every town and city throughout India and provide the reader with an insight into the characters that really make India the country it is. Spud sounds a bit extreme, definitely worth a hitmans fee!

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant read, 6 July 2013
I quite enjoyed the book as it gives real insight into the complex family and social structures in Philippine society. Even more refreshing was the author himself, an educated octogenarian and not the type of person you'd generally imagine would throw himself headlong into a very foreign culture, but he did!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another quite good read, 20 May 2013

Tells it how it is, the author is right it's not as good as the first book but perhaps living in Thailand for years myself there was less intrigue and mystery than the Ecuador book. This said, the book was well written and I did enjoy it.

Really enjoyed this book, read it from cover to cover in one stretch. If you are from the UK the additional interest stems from the lads going through familiar place. Well written and very entertaining. Buy it!
