4.0 out of 5 stars One of the 'big' entrepreneurs of the 20th Century, 10 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I worked for Alan Bristow for just 12 months in the 80s, and saw only a small corner of the man's character and career. This tale is written in a rather 'matter-of-fact' and stilted style (hence only 4 stars), but it was a revelation: stuffed full of amazing adventures, crazy gambles, and tussles with top politicians. He challenged many of the leading figures in business and government around the world, and usually came out on top through sheer determination and self-belief (some would call it 'ego').
The helicopter business is not something the general public have much contact with, but this story will make you sit up and take notice. If you want to set the world on fire with your new enterprise, read this as a how-to manual, but beware - you'll need more front than Harrods to carry it off! Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shedding light on the 'myth' of the 60s, 10 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great story of one man's crucial role in the rise of LSD and the flower power culture; of his foresight and his naiveté; of the paranoia of the US authorities and Leary's innocent pleasure in goading them; of the fascination of the great and the good of the music world in Leary himself; and of his ultimate falling from favour as 'tripping' lost its cool and riskier substances came to market.

I missed this era by only 5 or so years (and 3000 miles), and this was a real nostalgia trip - thoroughly enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good output, not very directional, 10 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this to improve the performance of my VN6800PC recorder in noisy environments. With this mic I needed to reduce the microphone input sensitivity from Hi to Lo, otherwise there was significant distortion. The sound quality seems slightly crisper, but the mic has not reduced the pickup of extraneous noise by much. Perhaps it will work better in spaces larger than my sitting room ...
Very light, and the stand, pouch, and wind muffler are useful extras.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but noisy, and no thermostat, 16 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pros: small size, easy to install, it has feet to stand on so the front panel carries no weight.
Cons: noisy enough to mean raising your voice a bit, close by; no thermostat, so it's an energy waster; switches are upside down for UK convention.
Overall: disappointing. At nearly £60 inc. delivery this is expensive for what you get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Set to be a Classic!, 21 Oct. 2012
I've already tried some of the recipes, they are not difficult and they work! It's great to be able to produce dishes that are out of the ordinary Indian. The stories about the chefs are really interesting and make me want to visit some of those famous Indian restaurants. Great pictures and a good read - I'll be buying more for Christmas gifts.

Well-fitting threads and a nice smooth rotary action. Turn the filter until reflections are minimised, for better images of water, or through glass. Don't forget to turn the filter if you rotate the camera from landscape to portrait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job nicely, 21 Oct. 2012

This stays on my Sony flash gun all the time - it really makes a difference, softening shadows, though it does reduce the range a bit. You might want to remove it when you are bouncing the flash off the ceiling.

At last a battery that works! Too many of these from other sellers are rejected as incompatible by the camera - I guess you get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replacement remote works!, 4 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The original remote that came with the TV started to lose functions - it wouldn't turn off the TV. This one worked straight from the box, no problem. It looks different from the old one, but the buttons are in more or less in the same place, so no re-learning. And it came with batteries - full marks.
