Delightful collection of innovation essays for leaders, 16 Nov. 2010
If you are the leader of an organisation and are looking for a bag of tricks, tips and ideas to bolster innovation in your business, you will find Paul Sloane's The Innovative Leader: How to Inspire Your Team and Drive Creativity a worthwhile read.
The Innovative Leader is a collection of short chapters, each just one to three pages long and focusing on a single issue. The chapters are divided into six thematic sections: Leading Innovation, Problem Analysis, Generating Ideas, Implementing Innovation Processes, Building a Creative Culture and Personal Creativity.
Each short chapter stands on its own. As a result, you can either read The Innovative Leader from cover to cover or pick and choose from Paul's rich selection of essays on creativity and innovation.
The book is clearly targeted at managers keen to inject their activities with a dose of innovation. However, it will also appeal to anyone with an interest in innovation techniques.
I found many of the chapters thought provoking and inspirational. However, if the book has a weakness, it is that it does not tie everything together with an underlying message or structure. Nevertheless, if you are interested in innovation, you will enjoy this book.
