5.0 out of 5 stars Flawed characters that make a difference, 6 May 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For me one of the best writers of this genre. Nothing particularly fancy or clever about David Gemmell writing but all of his books have honest entertaining character driven storylines. Whilst many books rely on the usual mix of magic and the odd dragon, Gemmell gives you flawed characters that make a difference rather than generic heroes that you encounter everyday. Great series of books I would highly recommend

3.0 out of 5 stars Excess fat needing to be cut, 5 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Veiled Alliances (Kindle Edition)
I really liked the first Saga series and have read many of Anderson's other books such as the Dune series. I maintained an interest in the books, that were entertaining enough, but to be honest I felt let down. It is good on one part to have cliff hangers at the end of each book and Anderson is a master of a surprise. Rather than rely on a previous synopsis of the story at the beginning of each book he feels that his readers have very poor memory. Just in case you have forgotten some of the story or relevent charaters, the writer seems to want to remind you of details several times over even to the point where he references events that were detailed several chapters previously. I found this to really drag the pace of the book. It feels like the writer has been either paid per word or that he feels the readers need continual reminders due to memory loss issues. In conclusion there is a large amount of excess fat that could be easily cut from all of the books to maintain interest. Sorry to say that this has made reading of the books more of a chore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard wearing mat, 5 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Product came within stated timescale. It arrived wrapped in a tube, which meant that it took a few hours to settle down to a level on floor. Initial thoughts were that it was a hard wearing mat and being pretty translucent looked good in room and saved me time trying to match up mat to existing carpet.

4.0 out of 5 stars An encouraging first book.., 29 Mar. 2016

An encouraging first book. Not in the realms of the greats (yet), but entertaining enough. Well paced with some dimensional characters and an evolving story. Was a little formulaic in places but was good comfort reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made box frame, 9 Feb. 2016

Well made box. It came with no instructions on how to fit the cards but hardly a big deal as very logical. I had read some comments about poor packaging but my box was well packaged and arrived on time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with purchase, 23 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ordered on Sunday delivered on Monday. I have been using for several weeks and it seems solid and fit for purpose. Not really sold on folding mechanism for typing but keeps tab protected and I find the consetina fold of the front cover a nice feature. Discounted price when I brought it and very happy with purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well thought out book but overall long for content., 23 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well thought out book with well developed characters. Why only 3 stars? I felt that overall the speed of the story and content were very loose and could have benefited from judicious trimming. Good action but momentum was lost at the expense of characterisation. Overall I thought that it engaged me enough to finish the tale. In summary I did not find that it was a gripping enough read and I doubt that I will buy the next book, as generically I have found more engaging reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read., 6 Jan. 2016

Not a book I would normally read but was very engaged with characters and story. Read it over a weekend and was glad that I brought it. Involving storyline, interesting characters and a white elephant. What's not to like?

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining distraction, 6 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Entertaining with plenty of suspense and twists. Overall engaging so why 3 stars? Characters were not engaging enough and I found myself not really caring greatly what happened to them. Lots of flashbacks which follows the girl on the train theme. This style of book is not generally not something that I would normally read but i did not consider it a poor read and was a good distraction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining yarn, 6 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have found the whole series of books great fun. If you are looking for high brow meaningful writing then I expect that you will be disappointed. However if you like a good old entertaining yarn with magic mythology with a modern twist then read on.
