4.0 out of 5 stars Let The Music Do The Talkin' Indeed.., 15 April 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fantastic moment in time captured by american radio 37 years ago(my dusty old cassette say 29/08/1980) this disc states recorded 29/03/1980,i doubt my cassette can be guaranteed to be accurate,so who cares, the sound quality ,is of its time and amongst the glut of these releases,i would say this is easily one of the best.

Captured in front of a rabid crowd the Joe Perry Project show the potential they had but never carried forward,8 of the 9 tracks found on the debut album 'Let The Music Do The Talkin' are performed, only 'Conflict of Interest' missing out,it was/is a superb album, every home should have one, throw in a few Aerosmith classics and a couple of cover versions and its a winning set list.

These discs are generally hit or miss, thankfully this is in the fomer category, its a great addition to any Aerosmith'Perry fans collection.

This review is from: Live From Texas (Audio CD)
Thoroughly excellent live album from 38 Special, covers all the era's with tracks from most albums and boasts a superb sound. If you thought 'Live At Sturgus ' was good then you'll love this. This disc captures at a band on fire and reveals although sometimes 'AOR' ish on later albums, they rocked with the best in the 'live ' arena

4.0 out of 5 stars 38 Special : Special Delivery................2013 remaster., 8 Feb. 2017

This review is from: Special Delivery (Audio CD)
Like the bands debut, this the 2nd release has also been re-issued as an audiophile vinyl replica remaster, once again boasting superb sound.

Like the previous album this is more of the same,Skynyrd's southern rock and the Outlaws country rock, superb music and exemplary playing.

Skynyrd fans will note a guest appearance from Billy Powell on 2 tracks 'Im A Fool For You' & 'Take Me Back' while Dale Krantz provides backing vocals.

The band would never sound more southern,in my opinion, than on these 2 discs, great albums would be released later but this and the debut should be cherished.

5.0 out of 5 stars 38 Special 2013 Remaster., 8 Feb. 2017

This review is from: 38 Special (Audio CD)
Thoroughly excellent debut from 38 Special a perfect cross between Skynyrd and The Outlaws, this 2013 audiophile vinyl replica release boasts stunning sound quality,it really is a fantastic remaster.

Highlights: the southern boogie of 'Long Time Gone' and the irrestible foot tappin 'Just Wanna Rock & Roll', while the beautiful 'Fly Away' would have been a hit,had the Eagles released it.

This is a long lost southern rock album, consigned to the dustbin of history particularly as the band would ultimately become more well known for later more radio friendly material.

Take a chance.. you wont regret it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shout it out loud... its not very good.!!, 8 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Torturous read, the author has forgotten the basic principle of writing this book, its to entertain, this is book is painful to read and not enjoyable at all.

Having over 20 Kiss books ,its fair to say i enjoy reading about this band but sadly this is easily the worst book i've read about Kiss, every chapter a chore, normally i would devour a book in a couple of days but this was put down after, every, chapter with no enthusiasm to start another.

Reading the cover your lulled into the belief that you'll be regaled with interesting anecdotes from the band and others present, rather we get inane information overdose...

I dont care wether a song was in 4/4 time,7/4 time ,it middle eights,it was B flat or a G minor chord etc, i dont care what tape was on the shure microphone..i wanted genuine tales from the band and the sessions.

The author is too clever for his own good and his constant referral to KISS as the 'ACT' becomes tiresome after the first couple of chapters,by the time i came across the incredible typo?,referring to Ken Kelly raking in the work after doing the sleeve, including the 'Rainbow Rising ' sleeve for Deep Purple !!!!! i'd had enough.

If you must have everything then go ahead and purchase otherwise leave well alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Turbo Tour Live and Loud, 3 Feb. 2017
Having the day off, nipped down the local hmv and there it is,the latest Priest 30th anniversary release 'TURBO 30 ', we'll forgive them that its now 2017,ha ha.

Have to be honest the original album didnt do it for me on initial hearing, back in the day. the new sound was fine but some of the material i felt was weak,it did however include 3 bona fide classics, namely, 'Turbo','Out In The Cold' & 'Locked In. The former being classic heavy rock with a commercial twist, while the latter is a lost classic, that just leaves 'Out In The Cold' which is easily one the bands best ever epics.

however this release is all about discs 2/3,a superb live recording from Kansas 1986,it absolutely buries 'Priest Live' and will never be out of the CD player,in fact i've listened to it all day (gave disc 1 a spin as well.)

The remastered sound is glorious and the packaging decent, booklet average(would have been nice to have some decent liner notes).

Well worth the purchase price for the live discs alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2112 40th anniversary edition.... wow 40 years....., 17 Dec. 2016
This review is from: 2112 (Audio CD)
The 40th anniversary edition of Rush breakthru disc is a weight release, 3 discs in all and has plenty to get your teeth into....

Disc 1 sumptious remaster, best version of this album, i've heard, warm lush waves of music flowing from the speakers,Geddy's bass sounds superb, bubbling away underpinning the perfection that is Neil on drums with Alex never sounding better,an excellent job done.

My original review of 2112 noted that,as a teenager , i adored the title track whilst pretty much ignoring the other tracks but over the years i grew to prefer those 'other tracks',thats pretty much has been the case, however this remaster is like listening again for the first time and i'm lovin' it all over again.

Disc 2 a hotch potch of cover versions and archive live tracks and a couple of odds n ends, the covers are all superb but its the Massey Hall extra that most will head for,its well worth it trust me, highlight of this whole package is the ,quite, epic live version of 2112, as they ask in the booklet, why? was it left of the original version of ' All The Worlds A Stage',we can only hope for a deluxe edition of that album.

The cover versions are all excellent, especially 'Overture' & Steven Wilson's version of 'Twilight Zone,it shows up somewhat the bootleg quality of the 'live ' version (but thats here as a rare artifact,so we can forgive that).

Disc 3 is the long available ,on you tube, footage from Capitol Theatre,Passaic 1976,its slightly better, brighter footage but its 40 years old and is what it is,however the revelation is the audio, stunning, restored audio and it rocks, cut to the chase i would have preferred they had included this audio along with the live outakes on disc2 and not bothered with the cover versions(great as they are),a missed oppurtunity i feel/

Packaging excellent fold out digi pak with the original 'Starman' hand drawn logo with a superb booklet with plent og historical anecdotes (Paul Stanley being nonplussed by 'Caress of Steel' and a ton of technical data for the musical buffs, its areally good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buenos Aires Rock City...., 8 Dec. 2016
recorded on the Monsters of Rock trek that Kiss did with Sabbath & Slayer across South America in August/September 1994,this was the second of 4 club gigs in Buenos Aires, albeit Kiss alone in a 5000 capacity hall, wherea the MOR gigs were in stadiums.

Lets get the negative out of the way,the tracks on many occasion fade down at the end of the track and despite between song banter where the vocal audio is right up front ,at times, unfortunately whilst singing the vocals are sometimes barely audible and occasionally disappear all together, possibly equipment problems on the night.

Its a shame because otherwise this is a superb performance, highlights include 'I stole Your Love,'' Got To Chose' & Black Diamond',while a fantastic version of Detroit Rock City (renamed Buenos Aires Rock City for the night) closes the show ,the encores include a manic 'Rock n Roll All Night'.

The passion of the crowd is incredible stopping Stanley in mid sentence on more than one occasion,so despite the ( vocal ) audio issues, this is still worth listening too

Edit: this is actually September the 5th,checked Kiss Alive Forever book, hadnt noticed that 'Got To Chose' was not noted on the set list for any of the other buenos aires dates

Another 3 live gigs from across the decades although not in quite as good quality as the 'Gods of Thunder' box set....

Disc1 Auckland,New Zealand 1980, fairly average sound quality, although you do get 'UNMASKED'' tracks 'Is That You/Shandi & Talk To me but the solo spots drag it down a bit and the disc peeters out with 'God of Thunder' complete with drum solo, the encores are missing.

Disc 2 Stockholm 1988, improved sound quality but almost certainly from the soundboard as the crowd sound as if their in another stadium across the road, well played selection of tracks but lacks the excitement found in the 'Ritz 1998' release.

Disc3/4 listed as 1992 its actually Buenos aires 1994 (September 14th) if the Kiss Alive Forever gig list is to be believed, this had a rejigged set list opening with 'Love Gun' rather than 'Creatures' and replaced a couple of tracks played the week before in Buenos aires(just released as a stand alone 2 disc set),this version includes 100.000 years/Forever /She /Strutter and Tears are Falling, sound quality decent.

Packaging average, foldout digpak,no liner notes at all, sound quality variable, its not essential but if your a Kiss nut like me,you'll probably buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ritchie Blackmore.. ...rock legend..., 19 Nov. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
for years we've waited on Blackmore resurrecting Rainbow and he steadfastly refused, then when he does he ,once again, does it on his terms, so no star names, formes members etc but another cast of unknown or hardly known musicians,it should be said they all do a fantastic job, while romero on vocals is a joy to hear,he handles both Purple and Rainbow tracks with aplomb.

Interesting comments from Blackmore after the gigs re the 50/50 nature of the set list,he admitted he had misjudged the situation and ,if in future the band played agian, there would be more Rainbow tracks, for my part i love the track listing,a veritable feast of Blackmore at his best (would have loved 'Burn' but we cant have everything).

The band sound superb on this release and in Romero,he has found someone who he can rely onn to sing these songs well, as the previous reviewer says, just listen to ' Child In Time '.

If your a Blackmore fan, you've probably already purchased,if still undecided, dont worry its excellent.
