5.0 out of 5 stars Is Amazon manipulating ratings?, 5 Feb. 2008
When this was first released I wrote a critical 1* review which does not appear on the site. Is Amazon manipulating reviews to ensure a positive result and therefore more sales? If not, where's my review??

1.0 out of 5 stars More like Ole Opry than Rock Opera, 23 Jan. 2008
Oh dear, oh dear. I have been listening to the Truckers for several years, have seen them live, and was eagerly waiting for this to be released. What a let-down! On first listening I thought a Kenny Rogers / Tammy Wynette compilation had been slipped into the CD case by mistake. What happened to the pace, the wit, the observations on life? Who thought it would be a good idea to let Shonna Tucker write and sing on this album?
This qualifies as this year's first coffee mat - it's certainly not going back in the CD player. The Truckers have driven by and disappeared into a middle-of-the-road dust cloud.

4.0 out of 5 stars A unique record of social engineering, 18 Jun. 2005
This review is from: Chavez Ravine (Audio CD)
If you're expecting Buena Vista Social Club Vol 2, this aint it. Whereas BVSC re-created a time and a place, this goes a step further, telling a story as it unfolds. Yes there's the latin music featuring musicians from the era in question, but it is much more varied andd eclectic than BVSC and, to my mind, more interesting for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give them a bit of time and you will be amazed, 13 Jan. 2005
A lot of people have written here and elsewhere about the difficulty of getting a good fit and the lack of bass. The fit does take some experimentation - I couldn't get it to work despite trying all the various sleeves. Fortunately, this model is designed to be worn two ways... the recommended way is with the wire over the ear, which I had trouble with. But they can also be turned upside down and used with the wire hanging like a normal ear bud and I got them straight in this way. Then, suddenly, I found the knack to inserting them the 'proper' way and now have no problems at all.
Either way, the sound is amazing. Bass improves significantly with proper fit as has been mentioned elsewhere.
What I haven't seen often is the fact that these are a bit 'bright' sounding to start with, but when they have been used a while and have loosened up the sound improves greatly. I ran mine overnight a couple of times on a medium volume and it made a great difference, bass improved and the middle softened.
So, the message is, try them, persevere with them, and you will be well rewarded. These are the best phones I ever owned.
