You have got to be joking. Possibly the lamest and most badly acted and scripted thing I've seen this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful machine, 24 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a professional musician who has collected first LPs and then CDs for over 40 years, I can only say that this charming, lovingly assembled machine has transformed the listening experience of our household. The CD player is a bit low-powered, the FM radio more than adequate, but the sound of vinyl is authentic, warm and perfect for those who don't want to be bludgeoned by sound but relish the direct warmth which we all miss in CD and download. The woofer gives unexpected depth to the whole and everything from Sinatra and Bassey, through Gigli and Caballe to Mozart and Brahms sounds wonderfully detailed and involving. My bank balance is now taking regular hits as I have regained my enthusiasm for 'finds' in charity shops and online, but the rediscovered glories of vinyl surely beat other luxuries hands down. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A performance which is unlikely to be surpassed., 24 Jan. 2016
This review is from: Martin Chuzzlewit (Audio Download)
This edition of Dickens' great satire of hypocrisy and avarice, and of the emerging United States, which is given here unabridged, is unlikely to be surpassed due to the extraordinary talent of Sean Barrett. The actor's intelligence and immense vocal range do full justice to the wide range of diverse characters in whom Dickens invested so much depth and credibility. It is an exemplary rendition.

A fascinating and wry account of pre-Caesarian Rome from it's disputed origins to the early triumphs of Empire. Compelling in content and elegantly written.

Gill's candour about his alcoholism thirty years ago constitutes the most compelling reason to buy this book. Witty, alert and moving in his observations, he doles out humour and wisdom in equal portions, only occasionally lapsing into the smug verbosity which can sometimes make his journalism infuriating. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom, solace and hope in one book., 17 Oct. 2015

Clancy pulls no punches in his ruthless autobiographical analysis, but this book will be an invaluable source of solace to those enduring the chasm of recent heartbreak and those who still have time to avoid it. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars but I believe this to be one of the greatest opera recordings ever made, 17 July 2015
It is a bold claim, but I believe this to be one of the greatest opera recordings ever made. The voices are placed forward of the orchestra in a way that was the norm before the megalomania of Karajan and Solti changed the way that opera was presented acoustically. And what voices they are! Here is Gobbi in his vocal prime; every twist and turn in Boccanegra's journey to full humanity and almost martyr-like apotheosis is brilliantly captured in his voice and inflection. In this, his real life brother-in-law Boris Christoff matches him in such a way that the final duet between Boccanegra and Fiesco is almost unbearably moving and, in my 40 years with this opera, I have never heard or seen it be surpassed. The villain Paolo is rendered to perfection by Monachesi - the best on disc - and de los Angeles and Campora sing with a lack of affectation and irresistible beauty of tone. The whole is guided with supreme intelligence and sensitivity by the totally underrated Giuseppe Santini, and the Rome Opera chorus and orchestra respond with an urgency and sincerity which is quite overwhelming.

5.0 out of 5 stars The production is beautifully sparse and the direction is of the highest quality, 31 May 2015

Nucci sounds as fresh as he did 30 years ago, and Iveri, Meli and above all Scandiuzzi provide superb support. The production is beautifully sparse and the direction is of the highest quality. I wept for the achievement of this great company and, above all, for the continuing phenomenon which is Leo Nucci. He is surely the greatest Italian artist on the stage today.

5.0 out of 5 stars The great baritone displays his art, 29 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What can one say? The greatest Italian baritone of his era in some astonishing live performances. The audience go nuts on several occasions and rightly so. Cappu il grande, l'imcomparabile. Listen to the range of emotion in Nemico della patria and be grateful that gods once walked the world's operatic stages.
