The Man Born To Be King
The Man Born To Be King
by D L Sayers
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars An undervalued classic, 10 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Have not finished reading it yet but D L Sayers dramatises the well-known texts with her great skills as a writer of plots and depictor of characters. It repeatedly yields new insights even to a student of the life of Christ of many years standing.

5.0 out of 5 stars This story of swine contains pearls., 5 May 2011

This review is from: Pig's Progress (Paperback)
The beginning of this all-age tale sees the Three Little Pigs escape from their Orwellian Animal Farm, only to encounter the Big (Bad?) Wolf. The youngest pig, Parsifal, then lives through an Alice-in-Wonderland-sequence of happenings in which this Big Animal plays a crucial part. I enjoyed identifying the big range of well loved stories and parables the tale draws on and laughed often at the word play, jokes and satire. As C S Lewis did,the author uses a different world, in this case that of story book animals, to tell key aspects of the Christian story and move the reader. The illustrations are delightful and fit the text perfectly.

Much enjoyed the many different cultures [Scottish, communist, Nigerian (several different ones), writers' circles etc]and the author's warm, open response(nonjudgemental even to the heavy welcome of her newly discovered Father.) Very likeable characters. Lots of humour.

I bought these books for a friend to give to a friend. I have read it myself but a long time ago, so can't review it.
