The Long Good Friday Steelbook [Dual Format Blu-ray + DVD]
The Long Good Friday Steelbook [Dual Format Blu-ray + DVD]
Dvd ~ Bob Hoskins
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest!, 31 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My two favourite films? The Godfather and The Long Good Friday - both are superb but the LGF shows exactly what we can do on much smaller budgets. The storyline bowls you along as does the wonderful music, the acting is superb - Hoskins deserved an Oscar - and the use of "faces" from the East End is a brilliant touch. Mirren is the perfect foil for Harold's East End gangster seeking to make good.
I could go on for pages I just wonder what would have happened if the film had not upset the establishment so much leading to its panning by the critics? It is a fine, wonderful memorial to the late, great Bob Hoskins who died this year - a great loss to British films.
I've watched it many many times and I still get the same adrenalin rush as I hear the wonderful tItle music.

Rest in peace Bob.

1.0 out of 5 stars writing about herself?, 30 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Red Mist: Scarpetta 19 (Hardcover)
I didn't even bother finishing this - too much attention to minuitae which do nothing for the plot/story. You become lost in the mindless detail which detracts from the plot itself. I think Ms Cornwell sees herself as Kay and is so sure of selling well that she forgets the "tricks" of her old novels which swept you along. I used to look forward to her novels and could read one in a day now I still look forward to them in the hope that she has gotten back her old "runaway train" plotting.

4.0 out of 5 stars The man in the background, 23 July 2010
This review is from: Pack Up (MP3 Download)
Wow, Eliza's voice may be catching but the big coloured guy in the background really makes this track shake! He's the star of this track by far - who is he?

The Tin Roof Blowdown (Dave Robicheaux Mysteries)

5.0 out of 5 stars A triumph - an insider's view of misery, 13 Aug. 2007
Once again Burke delivers!
We all saw the images of the misery caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans now we can read the thoughts of a man who saw it all.
Once again marvellous characters - some good some bad - ain't we all!
The reader can actually smell the distruction and putrefaction of a society brought to its knees by nature and the failures of the powers that be. Here nature wins - both the elements and the innate "nature" of man!
A book which is very hard to put down but one which you hope never ends!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Tricks series 4 - in fact all New Tricks, 1 Aug. 2007
Absolutely superb - the old adage of "there may be snow on the hills but there's fire in the hearth" truly fits this programme. Amongst the actors there is no "weak link" and the storylines often make you laugh and cry within moments of each other. Why the series never received an award I will never fathom - Life on Mars has been lauded many times but for me [an others]New Tricks is far better.

Please BBC lets have many more series in the future and how about an award or two!
