1.0 out of 5 stars Copy of Elrod's MAU?, 12 Jun. 2016
This review is from: Fire in the Hole (Kindle Edition)
Based on the sample, this seems to be very heavily based on the Morphic Adapation Unit stories from Elrod ([...]) published freely on the web and to use several of the common tropes from those stories. Unless the author is Elrod (which is a nom de plume) then there may be copyright issues here.

Instead of buyign this, read the free stories. They're mostly much better.

How to Become a Latex Spooler
How to Become a Latex Spooler

1.0 out of 5 stars Misclassfied, 10 Mar. 2016
I found this searching under Computing for LaTeX . This is a book about rubber, not typesetting . The sample is insufficient to make a judgement about which the book is about, to the extent that I am suspicious of some of the word choices.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good intro, but needs an update, 23 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very good introduction to Evernote for new users and a good way for someone who has used Evernote for a while but maybe not really exploited it to see what is available. The author does rather obsess about tags, that personally I find not very useful, and seems to have supped rather too much of David Allen's GTD Kool Aid, again personally not something I find useful, so maybe needs to take a step back and realise that just because something works well for them it won't necessarily be that good for everyone. That said, if GTD and tagging work well for you then great this is the book for you, if not then there's still lots of useful content.

The big downside is that this book is about a year old and is already out of date on some important aspects of Evernote, most noticeably about subscription levels. When this was written there were two, free (Basic) and Premium. There are now three: Basic (free), Plus (similar to the old premium but cheaper) and Premium (same price as the old premium but better). Given how in the book the author raves about how organised they are I'm surprised that they haven't issued a new edition covering the new features, new tools and subscription levels. :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for protecting tablet but USB cable broke in a few months, 27 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It protects the tablet fine (so long as you make sure to pick it up with the unsecured end of the tablet upwards) but the cable from the keyboard to the USB plug is too frail and breaks very easily making the keyboard useless. Could really do with a strain relief grommet and/or a lower profile USB plug with the cable entering at the side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!!, 27 Jun. 2014

This is the book I recommend to anyone interested in finding out more about Dyspraxia or Dyslexia. It explains in a way non-specialists can understand but gives the detail you need to really understand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't really work., 27 Jun. 2014

Previous calendars have been based around military uniforms and equipment, this Bond themed calendar doesn't really work. It's bland and blends in with all the other 'attractive models in various poses' types of calendar.

Next year, back to the military please.

2.0 out of 5 stars Feels delicate, 15 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've used this on my Kindle Paperwhite, Android tablet and Blackberry Q5, it seems to do the job. My main criticism is that it does feel quite delicate, like gripping too hard or putting it in a pocket with other items (e.g. aforementioned Kindle, Tablet or Blackberry) would probably result in a broken stylus.

It is also worth noting that for about a quid more you can get a pen with built in stylus, guess it depends what works for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not stable on flat surfaces, 7 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Where I work they insist that all drinks be in lidded travel mugs to minimise spillage so I'd been on the look out for a travel mug that will hold a Venti coffee (20 fl oz). The top heavy shape and the fact that the base isn't completely flat means that this mug isn't really stable on a desk so I have to be very careful picking it up.

It does keep the drink nice and hot.

DC AND AC CIRCUITS.
DC AND AC CIRCUITS.
by Gordon. Lancaster
Edition: Paperback

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality and Opaque, 10 Nov. 2013
This review is from: DC AND AC CIRCUITS. (Paperback)
I had Dr Lancaster for some courses in Electronic Engineering in 1990-1992. His book was a required text for the course, to the extent that you were required to purchase it from him or provide a receipt from the campus book shop to show that you had bought it new. Many students joked that he would make it a required text for any course he taught as it was the only way he could get any sales.

I don't recall him ever referencing it directly in his lectures or the related tutorials or practicals and when I tried to use it I recall that I found it quite poor in quality and rather opaque and obtuse.

1.0 out of 5 stars To call the charcaters flat would be to add a dimension, 19 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I got this for free and feel ripped off. The most rounded and interesting character appears about half way through for 3 paragraphs, whilst he parks a car, and then disappears. The rest of the characters are one dimensional and largely caricatures we've seen in a thousand books before.

I did finish the book, but more because I wasn't going to let it beat me than any desire to see how things turned out. I didn't like any of the characters, I didn't hate any of the characters, I just didn't care about any of the characters. I did get the feeling that the main character (a woman living with a boozed up man-child PE teachers who, when he is out of town, sleeps with her ex-boyfriend from school, at a school reunion then finds out she's pregnant but doesn't knwo if the current or ex is the father) is a Mary Sue for the author and her way of expressing her desire to emasculate her partner.
