4.0 out of 5 stars Robust Value, 27 Mar. 2015
Strong build quality, good electronic reliability, but not as powerful as the one I bought it to replace. Hence only four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap And Very Very Cheerful, 21 Dec. 2013
The only thing this kit lacked was a proper manual.
Here it is: [...]
The boxed kit was tidy and comprehensive. The screen looked reconditioned and was quite rough, with hairline watermark and chips, but the only point of the 2.5" is as a monitor to check it's working.
And believe me, it works.
After playing with the menu, I reset the time/date to current values, reset the mode from VGA to 720p, and reset the file cycle time from 1 minute to 15 minutes.
Took it out on the road and the sucker gripped the windscreen like a vice. The plug powered up the camera and charged the battery, which is quite large. It came with a 32G class ten card and there was no issue transferring the journey images to my PC.
Sound is a bit rough, but if you turn off your stereo you can do a running commentary.
Perfectly adequate and impressively comprehensive, it's one of the best £15 you will ever spend. Makes me feel like a Test Pilot!

4.0 out of 5 stars Initially Appeared To Be Packed with fluff and BS, 4 Nov. 2013

This review is from: gnuplot Cookbook (Kindle Edition)
This is a 220 page book.
I didn't reach the first nugget of actual Gnuplot information until I'd turned 13% of the pages. Honestly, that first 13% was like a parody of what goes into a book. I'm not interested in a reprint of copyright law, or the author's dedication to his pet Goldfish; I only want to learn about Gnuplot.
I suggest anyone who bought this book is entitled to a 13% refund on the £15.99 asking price. What a rip off. If that was the whole story. Fortunately it isn't.
Once the author gets down to the nitty-gritty, you just get loads of comprehensively explained examples of how to use the package.
Gnuplot is giving me plenty of good ideas about the current architecture of our data visualisation systems, the possibilities springing to the fore due to the (eventual) no-nonsense clarity of this book.

Definitely recommended.

Adequate burner which does what it says on the box. Good value for money. Fits right in. Be careful re-using the bezel from your old drive, none is supplied.

Episodic description of the story of hacking and counter-hacking from the 2004-5 era on, so very slightly dated occasionally.
The software descriptions, including several powerful code listings, are still completely current.
A quick search will reveal any of the tool sets mentioned, and if this is your second or third book on the subject, you should love the fictionalised accounts of hackers, hacked and counter hackers.
The use of the tools by the protagonists is described in detail, and if you've been introduced you will see this as a truly superior description of the world of hacking, from all points, criminal, legal, vigilante, victim.

The range of technologies introduced and described is a true eye-opener, and the writing style makes this like watching a technically accurate episode of 24.

Well written, educational and entertaining.

Superb. But make it the second or third book you read on the subject.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sickening enthusiasm, 21 Aug. 2013

Well written.
Over lavished with insincere 'morals' to wash down with the lessons. Rather too much encouragement and information, truly frightening tool-sets introduced and let's face it, most of the script kiddies reading this will want to 'hack the world'.
Obviously the author really knows his stuff, being a professor teaching just this in Dakota.

While I am very grateful for the ability to do some basic 'white hat' testing as part of my job, I can't agree that I'd get a thrill out of owning some other poor guy's computer. That sort of 'thrill' comes from feeling superiority and says everything about the lack of personality, character and moral fibre of the agent, not to mention obsessive pursuit of 'inferiors' bordering on psychopathic.

So. Useful book. A bit like too much vodka if you don't read in small doses. And for genuine Pentesters, invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Aid, Straightforward and to the Point., 28 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought the book to use at work where I was seeking information on updating a windows model we had produced earlier.
The book enabled me to get straight to the point.
The update was produced, and now we have an industrial device with all the bells and whistles we could ask for.

This book will save you spending frustrating hours scouring the internet for information which is frequently confusing, contradictory or even plain incorrect.

While a UK hardcopy would have been welcome as the company would have paid, the Kindle edition is part of my growing personal technical resource, which, of course, all fits into a jacket pocket and can be searched to take me straight to the nitty-gritty.

Not cheap, but nevertheless well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Plug n Play, 4 Oct. 2012

This PCI express card fitted readily into my main desktop; I use Ubuntu 12.04(a linux OS) and for a brief while I thought I had trouble.
The network symbol was just an outline, unlike my previous experience with a USB dongle.
Not difficult.
Go to System Settings, choose 'Networking'.
Select your network(Wireless router of your choice), supply the password, and connect.

No trouble at all.

My connection to my router is now more than five times faster, and everything 'web' happens in a flash.

Super little device, excellent value for money.
And if you must use Windoze, I expect the driver disk will sort things out.
BTW, the card arrived three days early.
Excellent.
