1.0 out of 5 stars George Harrison - Living in the Material World, 15 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a disappointment - absolutely nothing new here - much taken from the Beatles Anthology. I liked George a lot - probably the most down to earth of the Fab Four - but this film just proves he was third fiddle to Lennon and McCartney

1.0 out of 5 stars Merely a rant, 26 Feb. 2011
A terrible book - just a rant against all things imperial. I don't think I have ever read a history book that is so one sided. Of course there were a lot of unpleasant things that occurred during any of the empires featured in this book; but there were positives too - civilising influences, railways, a civil service, citizenship, agricultural advances, industrial innovations etc etc. I do hope Mr Parsons gives up writing and chooses another profession!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Read, 12 Aug. 2009
This is one of the best books about modern European history I have ever read. Mak's command of the great sweep of events coupled with the detail that affects individuals is masterly. The research that must have been carried out is staggering and enlightening. There are many facts and insights that other better known authors have strangely ommitted. Highly recommended

2.0 out of 5 stars Just another Empire book, 13 Jun. 2004
Very disappointing - this is just another narrative of the history of the British Empire (of which there are many!). Nothing in this book attempts to explain how Britain contributed to the way we live now. Don't bother!
