Le Creuset Cast Iron Saucepan Set - 3 Piece Set, Volcanic
Le Creuset Cast Iron Saucepan Set - 3 Piece Set, Volcanic
Price: £325.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect pans for lovers of real food and traditional cooking, 15 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These pans have ushered in a new age of cooking in my kitchen. Goodbye rubbish non-stick surfaces, hello to cast iron brilliance.

Okay, let's get this out of the way. They're heavy. Really heavy. If you have small hands and weak wrists, these might not be for you.

But if you can hold them and not fear dropping them, they're amazing. The big advantage to cast iron cookware is that they retain heat and distribute it evenly. This means you can cook on lower temperatures than you otherwise would, and you can rely on your food to get cooked through perfectly.

Onions caramelize beautifully, meats sear with a crisp outer surface, and sauces thicken to a gooey syrup.

If you really love food, you will love these pans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, warm, fast, reliable LED bulb, 15 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These make me feel like the promises of LED bulbs are finally coming true. It's lasted a couple of years so far, where other LED bulbs have gone after a few months. The light is warm and reminiscent of incandescent bulbs. The light is instant when switched on. No complaints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful camera, a wonderful return of manual controls, and exceptional pictures, 15 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This gets five stars from me even though it has several problems and restrictions.
- It's not the most flexible camera in the world. It has a fixed prime lens, meaning you can't change the lens and there's no zoom. You're stuck with the 35mm field of view and the f2 maximum aperture.
- You're also stuck with auto-focus because the manual focusing ring is rubbish. Rather than a mechanical ring with direct, tactile operation, it's an electronic ring offering focus-by-wire only. It's slow to respond, and erratic in its focusing speed. So it's auto-focus all the way, and that's mostly OK, but suffers in low light.
- It's great having a proper aperture ring on the lens, but its too narrow to grip properly.
- The battery life is terrible. Take it out for a few hours of shooting and expect to burn through three batteries. If you buy this, make sure you also get several spare batteries.
- Oh, and don't even think about shooting video with this. Video quality is pants.

But it still gets five stars. Because I love it. Like a shallow hipster, I love the way it looks. But I also love how it feels and operates. Dials! Proper dials! And none of that PASM nonsense here. Fuji's system makes so much more sense. Rather than setting the PASM dial and then turning an abstract command dial to change aperture or shutter speed, you just grab the aperture ring or the shutter speed dial and set it to what you want. Don't want to think about aperture? Set it to auto. Don't want to think about shutter speed? Set it to auto. It's intuitive, tactile, and fun.

The X100T makes me feel like I have control over my photography. Unlike other mirrorless cameras from other manufacturers or DSLRs from Canon and Nikon, this camera does not abstract the key controls into a digital menu or digital switches. It presents them simply and plainly, it lets me see at a glance how the camera is set up, and it lets me change what I want directly without having to change another setting just to get to the setting I want! I don't understand why Fuji is the only camera manufacturer that understands this.

It packs in lots of features that help you to take photographs in challenging conditions. The built in flash combined with the leaf shutter means the flash will sync at shutter speeds up to 1/2000sec, meaning you can use the flash outdoors in bright light to fill in shadows on your subject's face. And the built-in neutral density filter provides up to three stops of exposure reduction, meaning you can shoot wide open at f2 or f2.8 even in bright sunlight, or use a long exposure outdoors (for example to smooth out running water in a river).

Finally, the pictures it takes can be outstanding. Detail and color are exceptional. It's very flattering to portrait subjects. My wife hates having her picture taken, but she likes the results from this camera. It's subject isolation and sharpness at f2.8 combined with Fuji's colour reproduction make portrait subjects look gorgeous in almost any conditions.

In the end, the fixed 35mm field of view isn't a limitation. It's liberating. Instead of faffing about with lenses and zooms, you have no choice but to frame your shot and take the picture. And since the 35mm field of view is very similar to that of the human eye, your pictures will come out looking just the way you remember the scene looking while you were there. This is a great camera for capturing memories, with the maximum creative control and the minimum of fuss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel bag if you have a lot to pack but want to avoid checking bags, 15 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My wife and I travelled for two weeks around Japan with this backpack. In addition to the international flights, we took several domestic flights, and we never had to check our luggage, which made travel more convenient.

Despite fitting into the maximum dimensions for carry-on luggage, it's very large. The main compartment is a nice deep rectangle, which can fit a lot of clothes. We paired this back with packing cubes from Ikea, to use the available space as efficiently as possible, and we managed to fit two weeks' worth of clothes for two people into this bag.

The exterior pockets are very convenient. There are pockets everywhere you can think to put pockets. Phones, books, keys, snacks - everything you have will find a place somewhere in or around this bag.

It's lightweight but feels well made, with sturdy materials and straps. It's comfortable to wear, despite sticking out a fair way from your back when totally full.

We didn't have any problems with this bag, and I highly recommend it if you have a lot to pack but still want to avoid checking bags at the airport.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well made, perfect fit and operation, looks nice., 15 July 2016

This is a lovely iPad case. I had the regular version of this case before, and this premium version is much nicer. The leather and fabric is thicker and softer, making your iPad more comfortable to hold. All the switches and ports are accessible, it folds back into a landscape stand position, and it automatically turns your iPad on or off when you open or close the cover. It's perfect, really. Oh, and the dusky shade of pink is quite fetching.

Joseph Joseph Clean Press Garlic Crusher - Green
Joseph Joseph Clean Press Garlic Crusher - Green
Price: £14.40

4.0 out of 5 stars Good garlic crusher. Crushes well and easy to clean. Shame the parts don't fit together perfectly., 15 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With a garlic crusher, you really only need to know two things: does it crush garlic well, and is it easy to clean?

For this one, the answers are yes and yes, with some caveats.

It crushes garlic well enough. The cavity is large enough to fit two or three cloves at a time, if you're in a hurry. The handles are long enough to provide enough leverage to crush garlic with easy. The detachable top half makes it easy to scrape the strands of crushed garlic off the bottom. The one problem that the detachable parts cause is that they feel a bit loose when trying to crush garlic and jiggle about a bit.

It's easy to clean. Since you can detach the top half from the bottom, you can get water and a cleaning brush right in there. There are no inaccessible crevices for garlic to hide in. Unlike some garlic crushers, you can't bend the top half round the other way and poke those little spikes through the crusher holes - it doesn't have that. But the holes are shaped like little cones so it's easy to just wash out any trapped garlic with a stream of tap water.

Wahl Lithium Stainless Steel 4 in 1 Grooming Station
Wahl Lithium Stainless Steel 4 in 1 Grooming Station
Price: £71.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good beard and hair trimmer, great design, excellent battery life. Poor for detail or close shaves., 15 July 2016
The Wahl Lithium Stainless Steel trimmer is a high-quality, powerful, long-lasting trimmer that mostly gives a good shave.

Design:
The body is made from (or at least coated with) stainless steel. It's cool and smooth to the touch, and feels very solid. It's heavier than trimmers that are made from plastic. The design is minimalist and reserved, with only a few things to interrupt the beautiful metal.
- The power switch is activated by the thumb when holding the trimmer. It takes one press to turn it on and one press to turn it off. It illuminates bright blue while activated, it flashes when activated and the battery is low, and it illuminates while the trimmer is charging.
- The charging port is located on the bottom end of the body. The trimmer cannot be turned on while the charger is plugged into the port. To prevent the trimmer from turning on accidentally while stored or in transit, it comes with a small red plastic plug that you can insert into the charging port. The trimmer comes with a plastic stand with a metallic chrome effect, which you can use to stand the trimmer upright while charging.

Power and battery life:
Wahl's series of trimmers with lithium ion batteries are head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to power and battery life. Most other trimmers use inferior battery technology, which leads to the absurdity of 12-hour charge times for 20 minutes of use. Not so with Wahl. With some variation across the range, they nevertheless all charge much faster and provide much longer run-times, with increased power as well. This has three main benefits:
- Faster shaving. With more power on hand, the trimmer makes fast work of thick beard hair. It requires fewer passes and gets stuck less often.
- Longer time between recharges. You don't always have to recharge the trimmer between shaves. I used it a couple of times a week for two months before the power switch started flashing to indicate that the battery was low.
- Shorter charging time. You can quickly add 15 minutes of run time with just 5 minutes of charge time, perfect for when the battery is low but you're in a rush to shave.

Shaving performance:
The shaving performance depends a lot on which blade you attach.
- The standard beard trimmer and the T-blade (for hair or body hair) both perform well. They cut through hair easily. However, they don't cut especially close. The beard trimmer cuts my beard hair to about 2mm in length. If you like finer stubble than that, this trimmer might not work for you.
- The trimmer blades can be augmented with guides of varying thickness to help you trim your beard or your hair to the proper length. I haven't tried all of these, but the ones I have tried have worked well and have been easy to use.
- The detail trimmer is supposed to allow you to finely trim edge detail on your beard. It has a tiny oscillating blade behind a very thin foil. I've tried it a few times, and it's never worked for me. Cutting performance is very inconsistent and not particularly close.
- The nose hair trimmer looks and sounds like a dangerous thing to stick up your nostril but it's never pulled on hair or hurt me in any way, and its cutting performance is superb.

This trimmer set doesn't come with a regular shaver foil attachment, but I happen to have one from a previous Wahl trimmer (the Lithium Ion 3-in-1) and it works with this body. It works as well as it did before, making good use of the power available. However, cutting performance is actually quite poor, requiring several passes and some frustration to get a close shave.

For edge detail and a close shave on your neck or cheek bones, you're better off supplementing this trimmer with a classic wet shave.

Conclusion:
It's a good beard and hair trimmer, it looks and feels great, and its battery life is excellent. But don't expect it to be great for detail or for a close shave.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but blocks contactless cards, 19 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is great as a leather case, and it holds two cards just fine, but it has one big problem in my opinion. The material blocks the NFC signal used by contactless cards. This means if you store contactless payment cards in the slots on the rear, you will have to remove them from the case before tapping them on the contactless card reader. If Kavaj can fix this problem, the Tokyo case would be much better.
