4.0 out of 5 stars keep an open mind, 13 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
i read this since i like to think that i have an open mind. The claims made are quite incredible - most people can apparently have out-of-body experiences if they are not too prdjudiced against the idea. Its a fascinating iea and an interesting ,if slightly repetitive at times, read. Buhlman suggests you need around a month of practice to acheive results if you work at it. It took me two days to have a lucid dream as a direct result so I was happy - maybe you will be too !

5.0 out of 5 stars Sign of the times, 4 Sept. 2011
The sign looks exactly like I wanted - I stuck it on aluminium sheet and it looks like it will last for years.

Trouble is, far too many dog owners are generally ignorant (or maybe cant read?) and assume the message applies to other peoples dogs and not their pooch who would never eat your chickens, chase your cats, bite your child, defecate on your lawn or anything like that . "Oh no, my dog is WELL behaved.....now where's he gone?".

Maybe a second sign that says "This includes you !" would help ? Just a thought.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, 4 Sept. 2011
My four year old got this as a present for Xmas 2010 and when I saw it I thought - "What have I been lumbered with here?- looks horrendous for my eyes - hours of searching for tiny little things, boring! - how's a four year old going to find any of that? ". Well.... I WAS VERY WRONG ! What a fabulous collection of books ,I now have bought several of them- we have had many, many, oh so many hours looking for all the hidden things. I wish it were actually harder - those are the ones that give the most pleasure when they get found! Give them a try , you wont be disappointed !

Outwitting the Devil: The Secret to Freedom and Success
Outwitting the Devil: The Secret to Freedom and Success
by Napoleon Hill
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars open minded readers only, 4 Sept. 2011
"Outwitting the Devil" was suppressed for 70 years because of the particularly strong and antagonistic views Napoleon Hill expresses and there were legitimate family concerns it would damage his hard-earned and well-deserved reputation. Like many authors before him, Hill uses a third party to expresses his own views - rather sensationally for the time, this third party is "His Majesty" the Devil . Hill / 'The Devil' has strong and scathing views about his contemporary (late 1930's) society and its President, religious teachers, school systems , parents, in fact 98% of people in general, are given a full broadside and effectively denounced as all doing the Devils work ,namely -destroying the individuals ability to think for themselves - the whole basis of Hills philosophy.

Some people will strongly dislike this book since they will rapidly recognise that they fall into that 98%. Most people will benefit strongly from reading it if they are prepared to sincerely listen to Hill's engaging ,if unusually worded, message. If you consider that you are already in the other 2% you'll love it of course.

Amusingly, Hill makes several references to the fact that his book is likely to be slated heavily by the powers that be in society- little realising it would take his Foundation 70 years to agree to its release.

Personally I thought it was a good enjoyable read. The early history is quite fascinating especially if you have read "Think and Grow Rich" his more famous work. It is somewhat over emphasised and repetitive in a few places during "the interview" with The Devil but this is just to drum home the message which can be boiled down to this. "Dont waste your life drifting. Think for yourself" - But then you couldnt sell a book with only two sentences in it, so it is fleshed out with plenty of detail!

5.0 out of 5 stars Your wish can come true, if you buy it !, 17 Mar. 2008
Like any childs book most will need to be read out loud hundreds of times by YOU!.
So buy one that will bring a smile to YOUR face hundreds of times !
This IS such a book ! The illustrations and text are quirky, easily memorable and best of all it rhymes, so that its easy for your child to learn. My daughter loves joining in already (she's 18 months !)
