5.0 out of 5 stars A sensational debut from a major new talent., 20 Feb. 2009
This review is from: Until The Morning Light (Audio CD)
Daniel Ward-Murphy is a fine songwriter who has already built a strong following around London where he regularly performs with his excellent band. This album features the repertoire that he has spent the last couple of years honing and perfecting. It's 'Daniel's Greatest Hits' if you like - every song is there on merit and they are all superb. The production brings the very best out of Daniel and his band, featuring only violin, cello, drums, acoustic guitar and the stunning voice of co-vocalist Jennifer Delaney. One of the most exciting releases this year that will certainly help spread the word about this very talented artist.

The bonus tracks on this limited edition are all excellent live performances, there's even a remix by The Silence and also included is the video of 'Queen Of Something New' as well. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Debut, 9 Mar. 2008
This review is from: Fire & Snow (Audio CD)
Mandyleigh Storm really has a sensational voice and this rootsy rock album is her fine debut, featuring ten excellent songs that could have been recorded anytime during the late sixties or early seventies but always sounding totally contemporary. Influences abound from west coast rock to celtic soul, with guitarist Johnny Scott from Van Morrison's band both tasteful and fiery. Beautifully produced and mixed by Mick Glossop, this is a very special album that needs to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensational debut, 21 Feb. 2008
If Mandyleigh Storm has been waiting all her life to make this album she's certainly made the most of her opportunity, as Fire And Snow is deeply satisfying and stuffed full of excellent songs. It's her voice that demands one's attention and she delivers everything straight from the heart. There's plenty of superb guitar playing and swirling Hammond organ as well as delicate touches of dulcimer and slide. Soulful and rocking - highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Jazz Rock Classic, 16 Jan. 2008
This review is from: Devotion (Audio CD)
A great record
A great 60s record. I can understand how in retrospect it may not stand up as well as some of McLaughlin's many other fine recordings from a dazzling career, but this is an important touchstone for the whole jazz rock movement that should not be underestimated. And there's always Buddy Miles' gutbucket solid drumming for good measure!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is really special!, 6 Jan. 2008
This review is from: Empirical (Audio CD)
A marvellous first release from the band that truly carries the flame for British Jazz. Although young, they have already established their own sound and know exactly where they're headed. There are no weak links - the rhythm section of bassist Neil Charles and drummer Shaney Forbes are fierce and swing like crazy, and pianist Kit Downes, saxophonist Nathaniel Facey and trumpeter Jay Phelps are always inventive and expressive. But they've got such good tunes to be creative with! Courtney Pine produces and engineers and does an extremely good job. It's no surprise that this album was the critics' favourite for 2007. It's my favourite too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of southern rock, 10 May 2007
This review is from: At Fillmore East (Audio CD)
Actually this album is more than the pinnacle of southern rock - it could well be the finest album I've ever heard. The Allman Brothers' guitarists Duane Allman and Dickey Betts were two of the finest players ever, and the twin drummers Jamoe and Butch Trucks, amazing bassist Berry Oakley and hugely underrated voice and keyboards of Greg Allman made this band untouchable then and now. I appreciate this is a lot of hyperbole to deal with, but just listen and you will not be disappointed. I play this music often and am still completely in love with it. I'll bet you will be too.

Purely and simply the finest live album ever recorded by the greatest improvisational rock band of all time.
