5.0 out of 5 stars Macbooks, 18 Mar. 2009
It's excellent, truly so, (as indeed was my G4 ibook before it). Do believe the hype totally, and as an OS, OSX is so much better than the competition.
The only downside is the 2Ghz version doesn't have a lit keyboard, but I can forgive that, given how bright the screen is. A lovely product.

4.0 out of 5 stars But what is it?, 8 Dec. 2008
Anyone buying this should be made aware, as with a lot of products today, this is basically a re-badged something else, in this case a Panasonic Lumix LX-2, a pretty good camera in it's own right. The differences are apparently largely cosmetic and badge factor is involved, hence the price difference. The Leica allegedly has different firmware, which deals with noise differently, and there is the badge factor. Personally I think the Leica looks better, and the red button means it will make a better resale price if and when you want to upgrade it, which is worth considering, but to all intents and purposes they are pretty much the same item except for the price, having said that, given the price differential and my brand adherence I'd probably choose this, fool that I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not definitive, but required., 5 Feb. 2008

Slab! were just one of those bands in the late 80s that made a very distinct impression on some of us, this is required listening so far as I'm concerned, it carries the flag for various less marginal bands such as ACR, and carried the funk with noise attitude and almost bordered on art punk a la US (which was only just barely starting to surface properly, although it contains a darker sense of humour. Even their dalliances with the commercial edge were very worthwhile, both "people pie" (which is on here) and "death's head soup" inspired quite a few of us back then to spray paint our guitars de-tune them and stick strips of cloth on them, marvellous. buy it, steal it, borrow it, a very very underrated band indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I rarely bother..., 28 Jan. 2007
This review is from: The Fall of Math (Audio CD)
...writing reviews, but I have to say that this is without doubt one of those defining pieces of plastic, that has made me re-examine what I'm currently listening to. It ticks so many of the right boxes, snatches of Drum n Bass, electonica, post-rock and hardcore. i can't remember hearing a band and feeling like this since MBV in teh 90s. Brilliant - buy it, download it - it's a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars trench fever, 30 Jun. 2006
This review is from: Trench Fever (Paperback)
Forget the deep historical and motivational analysis of the Great War, forget the lions led by donkeys theme, If you want that kkind of stuff read ferguson; this is about what it's like to be led into an obsession on the subject via a family member, and then gripped by it. I related to Christopher Moore's experiences on so many levels, and in so many areas it is almost scarily reminiscent of the way I personally feel about my search for my grandfather. A recommended read for anyone with a light interest, right through to those of us who have traipsed around muddy French and Belgian fields looking for a meaning to whatever it was that happened.

4.0 out of 5 stars Private Ryans Dad..., 31 May 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Without doubt this version is one of the greatest examinations of the effects of war on the individual. While it still displays the lack of realism in the battle sequences which are redolent of it's roots in the war films of the 60s and 70s, drawing comparisons to recent war films special effects and approach to realism being pointless given it's age; it's ability to shock by using the transformations that overtake the men as a result of the continual fighting and the horrors of war is the point of the film and the humanity displayed by them despite the ordeal. It also draws an interesting parallel to elements of both "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers", it must have been inspirational in both cases. Far more than an action film and a fine example from it's era.
