5.0 out of 5 stars HAPPY 90th !!!, 27 April 2012
This album is wonderful.
Judy is in great voice and the album tracks are spot on. Some of the out-takes are arguably better than the released versions but they are all terrific. Come the 10th of June 2012, Judy would have been 90 and this cd is a fitting tribute to this irreplaceable entertainer. A treasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A TIMELES CLASSIC !, 27 April 2012

This review is from: The Visitors (Audio CD)
This album is quite simply a work of art. The grown up ABBA steps away from the disco lights and into the twilight with grace and dignity. The album songs are timeless and the bonus tracks are more than worthy of inclusion. I have to admit that 'JUST LIKE THAT' would have been the icing on the cake...however I suspect that ABBA have another surprise for us coming shortly...

The 'From A Twinkling Star - To A Passing Angel'bonus track makes you miss ABBA all the more and I really wish we had the FULL tracks to compliment the final version. FRIDA's voice is gorgeous!

My only complaint is that Benny was/is so much of a perfectionist that he missed several opportunities to reach the top of the charts with unreleased songs that we the listeners would have willingly (nowadays included) purchased without a moments thought. He was/is a humble guy and all the better for it, but there were some wonderful songs (not released) that were undeniable hits.

'The Visitors' the new cd is fabulous - however I suspect that we have still some more surprises coming our way - fingers crossed XXX Wonderful album!

5.0 out of 5 stars ELVIRA IS A SCREAM !!! THE QUEEN OF HALLOWEEN !!!, 24 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Firstly, the movies are bad and I mean BAD!!! The acting is so hammy that you can smell the bacon from the moon (next time you are up there check it out. No really!). The production on both films would make Ed Wood movies look high class.

However...when you add the glorious and sexy ELVIRA then we are into a different ball game. Her hilarious one liners and funny anecdotes really save the day (or night if you're a night owl like me). This lady has seen it all, done it all, and she's still doing it perfectly. Woof Woof!

She makes the films fun to watch by adding her very ample talents to the full. The Macabre dvd collection is worth 5 stars ***** because of this living Legend. Like I said before, the movies are cringe worthy but she adds a whole lot of something else. Bring it on babe!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ITALIAN SIX MILL STALLION!, 13 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have to be honest,
when I first purchased this tem from Amazon/Italy complete with Italian packaging and dubbed in that language too, I was expecting the worst.
I was however very relieved and pleasantly surprised at the quality of this box set when it arrived. Although everything is in the Italian language (including the dvd menus), I found it extremely easy to navigate to the original english language version of each episode. The quality is as good as anyone could hope for and this is one very greatful buyer. I have loved this show for years along with the Bionic Woman (The devine miss Wagner also appears in this season) so it was great to finally have Season 3 all to myself and wallow in much needed nostalgia. A HIT! It's that SIMPLES (squeak).

5.0 out of 5 stars JUDY GARLAND - YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU !!!, 3 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Lost Tracks: 1929-1959 (Audio CD)
From the word go this cd is beyond belief! This isn't just any singer, it's Judy Garland wearing her heart on her sleeve and singing like a nightingale. Many of the recordings are extremely rare, 'Bill' (Thanks Jute's For Singing This To Me - lol) & 'On The Good Ship Lollypop', and have been wonderfully restored.
The other 'Worlds Greatest Entertainer' AL JOLSON called her a Miracle Of Song.
Given that he loved himself so much (and rightly so) this was indeed praise from the Master
I have many favourites here but the one that really stands out for me personally is the wonderful 'Long Ago & Far Away'. This melody just melts my heart as it was recorded live on radio during world war two and you can really sense the emotion not just from Judy but from the audience too. The duets with Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra are enchanting although I do have to tell you that the Sinatra duo has been released elsewhere with better sound.
I have recently encountered a few people who believe that Miss Garland had a limited singing range. Not so (checked it out)! Judy's voice lay somewhere between a Contralto (latterly) and an Alto which means that she sounded lower in pitch than the likes of contemporary singers like Lena Horne or Barbra Striesand who sang Soprano but her range wasn't less than theirs but just set at a slightly lower register - like Frida & Agnetha from ABBA. Judy's voice was high and lower at times but certainly no less compelling than any of her friends - Peggy Lee, Barbra Striesand, Ella Fitzgerald etc. When she got older her voice deepened and became richer, stronger, and more dynamic. Soprano's seem to be the in thing these days for sure but nobody could/can ever quite match the Garland touch, no matter the lenth of the note or the high C, because sometimes the song means more when it comes from the heart, warts and all. Judy didn't have the benefits of today's studio recording techniques but still manages to sound as good as anyone around today - and because her heart was in her voice and her love shone thru for her fans. That's why she is the best!
