Home Brewing: A Complete Guide On How To Brew Beer
Home Brewing: A Complete Guide On How To Brew Beer
Price: £0.99

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I bought it., 9 July 2015
Excellent book about brewing, beer, and everything that goes with it. I got it for free on kindle unlimited, but it's so good I'm actually going to buy and keep it.

Tons of well-written background info on the whole brewing process while not losing sight of the goal: to make and enjoy good beer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Passable storyline, awful editing, 20 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Glastica (Kindle Edition)
Littered with typos and grammatical errors - I suspect it was dictated to a voice recognition software or OCR'd from handwriting.

Beyond that, it's ok. Not great, not terrible, just ok. I get the impression the author is a little confused about the universe in the book and loses the thread of the story a little, but the characterisation is reasonable and the somewhat meandering storyline does nonetheless move forward.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great..., 7 Jun. 2014
This review is from: Chronicle (Amazon Video)
Despite a valiant attempt by the cast, this was ultimately pretty naff. You can't see the wires for the aerial work, but you can tell they're there by the way people move - and the storyline itself seems compressed into about 15 minutes in the second third of the film.

If you're bored and want something to kill a few hours, go for it. Otherwise, there's much better out there

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad story..., 26 Feb. 2013
...painful spelling (you're vs your in several places), typos and grammatical errors, and quite a few him/her mix ups that leave you scratching your head as to who's talking and who's being talked about. Needs editing, then 4*'s.

3.0 out of 5 stars Content is good, but so badly written it's painful, 9 Feb. 2013

I'm pretty sure some of the issues are because of the formatting for Kindle, but there are hundreds of places where sentences either run-on or stop mid-sentence and continue in a new paragraph. Titles and subtitles are often incorporated within the main body of paragraphs, which means you get the confusing task of figuring out whether a bit of text is another entry in an (unbulletted) bullet list, or the beginning of a new section; sometimes it's not clear until several paragraphs later which of the two it was.

For example, the definition of law is given as "- Binding or enforceable rule: a rule of conduct or procedure recognised by a community as binding or enforceable by authority - piece of legislation: an Act passed by a Parliament or other body - legal system: the body or system or rules recognised by a community that are enforceable by established process" which is pretty hard to read (especially if you're using Kindle on an iPhone or other small factor device).

In several places there are references to things "discussed above" which are in fact discussed a few pages later (which makes you wonder if you've missed a bit, skip back, give up in confusion and then find it when you continue) and there's a goodly sprinkling of typos and confusions between their/there, where/wear and so on; more annoying than hard to read, but certainly adds up to a book which could do with an editor spending some time on it.

On the plus side, the content itself is well thought out, fairly good in terms of both depth and breadth of coverage, and is written with a fairly neutral, non-opinionated style which makes a change from several of the slightly more biased sources I've seen on the internet.

Overall, 3 out of 5: the content is good and worth of a 4 or 5, but the combination of layout issues, flow that doesn't match the narrative in places and general lack of editing adds up to a big enough downside that it loses marks. With an editor's attention it could easily be a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really very good!, 21 May 2012

Well put together (with a few minor typos, which mar an otherwise well written trilogy) with strong character development and a novel premise on which the three books are based. Enjoyable page turner that had me keen for more the whole way through.

1.0 out of 5 stars Far, far too short for a non-free title., 21 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Content-wise, this wasn't bad - it's pretty hard to build characters in just a few hundred words, but by concentrating on just the two boys the author does a passable job.

But seriously? The length? This isn't a novella, it's a blurb. More than half the file is actually a preview of the second book (Royal Dragoneers). The remainder took me 24 minutes to read. I'm not sure if it's possible to return kindle titles for a refund, but I'm now going to find out...

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncomplicated, excellent food for those of us who don't have a Michelin star, 11 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ramsay sets out to create a cookbook worthy of social, family cooking where the process is almost as important as the result - and succeeds. Recipes which are well suited to sharing with those who don't cook much or at all, which aren't hurried and which will forgive the odd oversight here and there when you've forgotten about them temporarily while opening another bottle of red rub shoulders easily with quick, easy and impressive starters, soups, snacks and meals. Nowhere here will you see directions to cut one ingredient macédoine, another paysanne and yet another brunoise... it's all about the sheer enjoyment of spending time in the kitchen and such culinary precision takes a deserved (but surprising, given his pedigree) back seat to fun.

If you're looking to enjoy a sociable afternoon with friends & family creating a meal you can all enjoy, this is the perfect book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Restaurant curry" recipes that actually turn out like restaurant food, 11 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've bought quite a few Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistani cookbooks which purport to be "the secret of restaurant curry" and turn out - while usually delicious - nothing like the stuff you'd get in a takeaway on a UK street. And, authentic as they no doubt are, sometimes there's nothing quite like "going for an Indian". This book is the exception; simple and uncomplicated, it's perfect if you - like me - just want to make the same stuff you'd get in a restaurant but in the comfort of your own home (and much cheaper... a lamb dopiaza, aloo gobi and pilau rice for four healthy appetites worked out at about £12, most of which was the lamb).

Full marks!
