I like Wilco Johnson's songs and style but I prefer Daltrey's vocal delivery. Here we have the best of both! Great brit-rock/blues cd.

What a guy! The recluse Beachboy comes out with an album tinged of his own "surf" sound, jazz, orchestral, Mamas & Papas, all in a contemporary style with great guest vocalists (one lady sounds just like Doris Day) and a great variety of songs. Love it!

An intriguing tale of a murder aboard a yacht which was, as the title says "postponed". Perry solves the mystery as usual and gets his client off. (No surprises there!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth 5 Stars., 20 Mar. 2015

Excellent. This was recorded live in 1957! Remember the rubbish live recordings of bands in the 60's and 70's? Well this is nothing like that. More or less like a studio recording in quality and you get the live bonus of little "in-jokes", even mistakes (!) Feels like you're there and not listening thru an old sock! Most of his early hits are covered: You Make Me Feel So Young, The Lady is A Tramp, I Get A Kick Out of You etc. Look out for one of his first ever hits beautifully delivered "Oh! Look At Me Now" and, apparently this was the second live show he had done that day. Lots of references to alcohol in the banter and, I seem to remember the only brief encounter I had with the great Mr S. in an airport many years ago, he had had a few too, but, hey, it was the less politically correct 1950's and this was THE VOICE. Well worth 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad considering..., 12 Mar. 2015

Well, you have to be a bit of a Beatles fan, but all in all, not bad considering the standards we're now used to for live recordings.

5.0 out of 5 stars The King of Wales, 27 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The King of Wales, as Will.I.Am, often calls him on the BBC's "The Voice", often refers to his encounters with the late Francis A Sinatra in Las Vegas so I was curious to hear Tom singing some of the standards from the Amercan Songbook. I have to say he does a great job using his powerful voice and plenty of the "light and shade" he advises contestants to use when interpreting a song. His versions of "Hello young Lovers" and "That Old Black Magic" are superb as is his treatment of bluesy ballads like "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Let It Be Me". 24 four tracks on this album, no sleeve notes or writing credits but a great collection from the King of Wales!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad!, 22 Feb. 2015

Not bad! Honestly, I had expected much worse. The versions are not as polished as those released later on Parlophone but the sound is clear. You can see how originally the Beatles were a kind of rock cabaret act. Something for everyone, a little latino, some old ballads, some Chuck Berry.........plus some interviews. No sleeve notes, only song titles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but not for Belgium!, 13 Jan. 2015

Great but don't buy them in Belgium where they are a "non standard" size which means your postage will far outweigh the cost of the cards! (As I found out! Fortunately the post-office accepted my bank card!)
