Whilst not comparable to over ear headphones of a similar quality (which would set you back possibly twice as much or more) these are probably some of the best in ear phones around.
They are of a much better build quality than many other earphones. The earphones themselves are made of a durable, hard-wearing plastic, meaning they should last a long time. The cable is braided and covered in a heavy duty plastic sleeve meaning the days of snapped and sheared wires is a thing of the past, though if like me you are capable of destroying even these robust cables through a pathological clumsiness, your fears can be allayed by the fact that, unlike many other ear phones, these feature detachable cables, which can be replaced far more cheaply than buying a whole new set (Shure EAC64CL replacement cable for SE215/315/425/535. Clear
The sound produced by the triple micro drivers is clear, crisp and very faithful to the original source. They easily distinguish between the various sources, even in complex orchestral pieces and the bass is clear and vibrant. For those used to the lower end of the market, or those who like the bass turned up, these may not suffice, as there is no artificial bass added, but rest assured it is reproduced as was intended in the original recording.
The selection of ear buds will almost certainly provide a good fit and amazing sound isolation (stop look, and look again when crossing the road because you won't be able to listen!). The ear buds can be tricky to remove from the phones so be carful here, especially with the foam ones. Luckily the already attached medium foam buds didn't fit me well because they are now unusable.
The phones can be difficult to get in, as they require a twisting action followed by hooking the wires over the ears, this however gets considerably easier with practice. For myself these ear phones are far more comfortable than other in ear phones, and can even be worn comfortably during sleep. As a warning, however, my partner is unable to wear these are they press painfully against part of his ear making them unwearable, this is I think due to the shape of his ears. Anyone who has comfortably worn the previous SE530 model or the SE215 model shouldn't have this problem. If possible I recommend anyone else to try before you buy (a friends or local stockists), but if they fit you won't be disappointed!
